It’s been quite a while since we had so much good news, but we found it in abundance yesterday (15 Aug).
Both the total number of cases and unlinked infections dropped, no new clusters were reported, and a large number of clusters closed.
Reader: Ah, it looks like you’re finally living up to your name, Goody Feed.
Several of our existing infections grew, however.
Reader: Okay maybe I spoke too soon.
Existing Clusters Grow, 9 Clusters Closed
While no new clusters were reported, many of our existing clusters grew, albeit by small margins.
One case each was added to the clusters linked to Sin Ming 23 Coffee Shop, Marina Bay Sands Casino, SAFRA Tampines, and KTV lounges/clubs.
One infection was also added to the Bishan bus interchange staff cluster, which now has ten cases.
The Sengkang bus interchange staff cluster had three new additions, bringing its total to 17 infections.
Yesterday, the Land Transport Authority said that all affected bus captains and staff members are either asymptomatic or showed mild symptoms.
As previously mentioned, no new clusters were identified, and nine of our existing clusters were closed by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Clusters are closed when there are new linked cases for 28 days, or two virus incubation periods.
50 Locally Transmitted Cases
50 new locally transmitted cases were reported yesterday, 14 of whom were unlinked.
Six of these infections were detected through surveillance.
Additionally, three imported infections were detected. All had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
443 Cases in Hospital; 9 in ICU
At the moment, there are 443 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
32 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, while eight are in critical condition in the intensive care unit; of these 40 cases, eight are fully vaccinated.
33 of them are above 60 and have fallen very ill; seven of them are fully vaccinated.
The percentage of unvaccinated people who became severely ill or died over the last 28 days is 9.6%, compared to 1.2% for vaccinated people.
As MOH emphasised once again, evidence shows that almost all fully vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected. And the ones that do had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible.
As of Saturday (14 Aug), 75% of our population has been fully vaccinated, with 81% at least partially vaccinated.

POFMA Correction Issued to Erroneous Facebook Post Claiming 3YO COVID-19 Patient Died
A correction direction was sent out by the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) Office over a Facebook post that wrongly claimed that a three-year-old COVID-19 patient had died at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The post claimed that the death was deliberately not reported in the news.
The POFMA correction was ordered by Health Minister Ong Ye Kung after the ministry rubbished the post and called it a “total fabrication”.
“The Government takes a serious view of the deliberate communication of these false statements, and criminal investigations under POFMA will be conducted,” it added.
