2,038 COVID-19 Cases Reported on 18 Nov With 6 New Deaths

We had quite a bit of good news yesterday:

  • our daily caseload fell significantly
  • the number of COVID-19 fatalities was the lowest it’s been in a long time
  • our ICU utilisation rate dropped below 60%

Our weekly infection growth rate – the ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before – did go up to 0.90 from 0.89 on Wednesday (17 Jan), however.

2,038 New COVID-19 Cases

2,038 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (18 Nov), a decrease of 1,436 from the previous day’s tally.

The cases comprise 1,964 infections in the community, 67 in migrant worker dormitories, and seven imported infections.

Among the local cases are 294 seniors above 60.

6 COVID-19 Fatalities

Six more COVID-19 cases succumbed to the virus, bringing our death toll to 625.

This is the lowest number of deaths reported in a day since 23 Oct.

Aged between 57 and 84, all of them had various underlying medical conditions.

MOH Closely Monitoring 3 Large Clusters 

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is closely monitoring three large clusters with new cases, the largest of which is at Jenaris Home @ Pelangi Village, with 70 infections. 68 residents and two staff members have been infected there.

One case was added to the Safari House Preschool cluster in Toa Payoh, bringing its total to 19, comprising 11 students, five staff members, and three household contacts of cases.

The last cluster, Iman Childcare at Woodgrove, grew to 36 after two cases were added to it. six staff members, 22 students, and eight household contacts of cases have been infected there.

1,435 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 113 in ICU

At the moment, there are 1,435 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

226 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 113 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 53 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 60 who are critically ill and intubated.

Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.6 and 5.0 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 2.0 and 44.4 respectively.

Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.1 and 0.9 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.2 and 9.1 respectively.

Currently, 85% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 86% have received at least one dose. 22% have received their booster shots.

Those Medically Ineligible For Vaccines Exempt from VDS 

From 1 Dec, individuals who are medically ineligible for all COVID-19 vaccines under the National Vaccination Programme (NVP) will be able to enter all premises or participate in activities where vaccination-differentiated safe management measures are required.

These include entry into shopping malls and dining in at F&B establishments, the authorities said in an updated advisory.

“They will need to present a hard copy memo issued by a General Practitioner (GP) clinic, public or private healthcare institution, along with a government-issued photo identification card for entry into these premises,” it added.
