1,101 COVID-19 Cases Reported on 2 Dec With 9 New Deaths

Our daily caseload and ICU utilisation rate both went down yesterday (2 Dec), but there was one piece of bad news that overshadowed everything else.

In case you don’t know, two passengers who arrived in Singapore from South Africa on a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight had tested “preliminarily positive” for the concerning Omicron COVID-19 variant, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“The cases are currently recovering in isolation wards at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). Both are fully vaccinated and have mild symptoms of cough and scratchy throat,” MOH said.

Fortunately, both cases were isolated upon arrival in Singapore on 1 Dec, and had not interacted in the community.

Contact tracing efforts are ongoing.

That wasn’t the only bad news we got yesterday as more people succumbed to the coronavirus.
