18YO Man Arrested After Crashing Car Into Road Divider in Punggol While Trying to Evade Traffic Police

There’s something called karma in this world. Or, more appropriately, car-ma.

As an 18-year-old man learned this in the wee hours of Saturday (22 May).

Man Arrested After Crashing Car While Trying to Outrun Police

The incident happened along Seletar Expressway, where patrolling Traffic Police officers signalled for a blue BMW 3-series to stop, according to the police today (24 May).

The 18-year-old driver (how did he get his licence so fast—oh wait, he didn’t) chose instead to attempt to outrun the police, who promptly gave chase.

Where do you think you are going that the police can’t catch you? Lim Chu Kang?

Unfortunately, what might have been settled by a fine escalated far beyond that when his speeding vehicle crashed into a road divider somewhere in Punggol, according to The Straits Times.

What a pity, maybe just a bit faster, and he could have launched himself into Malaysia to evade police capture.

A 21-year-old passenger was rescued and brought to a hospital, while the police arrested the driver for careless driving causing grievous hurt.

He was, apparently, also tangled in a great deal of offenses.

These include driving without a valid driving licence, using a motor vehicle without insurance (ouch, imagine how much the crash will cost), driving without consent of the vehicle owner, and even more.

Did he try to steal that car and speed drive it without a licence? Guess he’s trying to gun for a new record for most laws broken at once.

The car was sufficiently damaged that the passenger could not escape the wreckage with the car door deformed, but the driver could leave the vehicle, apparently uninjured.

Because the best response after your reckless action almost killed your friend is to, well, abandon the scene and hope for the best. You really did your friend dirty, huh.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident, and freed the trapped passenger with hydraulic tools.

A video posted on YouTube by Facebook group SG Road Vigilante documented part of the chase, with the BMW speeding down Tampines Expressway and a Traffic Police motorcycle closely behind.

You can view the video down below.

There is also a video of the fast and furious pursuit on SG Road Vigilante’s Facebook page, which you view here.

Don’t drive without a licence, kids.
