You’re a football fan who loves watching anything that has to do with balls. Sorry, I mean soccer balls.
Unfortunately, you’re also a Man-U fan, which is why your friends don’t invite you to their house to watch the FIFA World Cup 2018.
They think you’re nothing but a glory hunter. Read: you’ll spoil the entire World Cup experience.
Okay, to be exact, you’re a broke-ass soccer fan. You can’t afford the $112.35 subscription for the World Cup package.
And your mother refuses to buy it for you because you’re always playing soccer with 6-year-old kids at the void deck instead of looking for a job.
Sounds familiar?
Okay, not the entire thing, but the unwillingness to pay over a hundred bucks for World Cup part.
So, you’re thinking, maybe I’ll tap into the Malaysia channel and watch the matches for free.
Because Malaysia is streaming the entire thing free for their citizens. Malaysia boleh!
Until Starhub came forward and said the following.
RTM 1 might be asked by the FIFA organisers to encrypt their signal so only Malaysians can watch the matches for free.
So your soccer match would look like this:
So what do you do now? Cry and pay your telco grudgingly?
Nope. That’s not what a real Singaporean does. Instead, you search for other free ways to watch the matches.
Lucky for you, Goody Feed wants you to be a remain true to your nationality, by giving you two free ways to watch the world cup for free.
And it’s not illegal.
One is, of course, the much-publicised community clubs.
The People’s Association (PA) will be screening all 64 matches live at community clubs. Yes, totally free-of-charge, and this has been going on since the founding of Singapore in 1819.
The opening match will be shown at Our Tampines Hub and 40 other community clubs on 14 June. At 11 pm to be exact.
The remaining matches will be screened at all 55 community clubs.
For the screenings, you can watch out for updates on their website. They will be updating the schedule during the week of the opening match.
Just so you know, a colleague who has watched a few World Cup matches in CC has this to say: “It’ll be crowded AF, even if it’s a match that no one cares about.”
And the second, lesser-known way is to go to these 22 McDonald’s outlets
Why McDonald’s? Because the sausage McGriddles is enough to get you into the mood?
Nope. Because they’ll be screening live world cup matches.
Here’s where you can go if you don’t feel like squeezing with other people at community clubs.
