1,782 COVID-19 Cases Reported on 23 Nov With 5 New Deaths

Several months ago, having over 1,000 new cases a day would have alarmed the heck out of us.

But after having a daily caseload of more than 3,000 and 4,000 for a couple of months, seeing cases breach the 1,000 mark isn’t that bad.

Soon, this will bring down the number of deaths too, but for now, we sadly still have several people succumbing to the disease every day.

If you missed the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) COVID-19 update yesterday, here’s everything you need to know:

5 COVID-19 Fatalities

Five more COVID-19 cases died from complications, bringing our death toll to 672.

Aged between 62 and 92, all of them had various underlying medical conditions, except for an unvaccinated case.

1,782 New COVID-19 Cases

1,782 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (23 Nov), an increase of 321 from the previous day’s tally.

The cases comprise 1,754 infections in the community, 21 in migrant worker dormitories, and seven imported infections.

Among the local cases are 326 seniors above 60.

Our weekly infection rate – ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before – rose slightly to 0.83 from 0.79 on Monday. Yesterday was the 11th consecutive day it has stayed under 1.0.

MOH Closely Monitoring 4 Large COVID-19 Clusters

The health ministry said it is closely monitoring four large clusters with new cases, the largest of which is at Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village, with 109 infections. 108 residents and one staff member have been infected there.

One case was added to the cluster at Sunlove Senior Care Centre @ 70 Buangkok View, taking its total to 23. Of the 23 cases, two are staff, 16 are clients, and five are household members.

The ECON Healthcare Nursing Home cluster in Chai Chee also grew to 35 after seven more cases were linked to it. All but one of the infections are residents.

The last cluster, at Pacific Healthcare Nursing Home (6 Lengkok Bahru), swelled to 25 cases, all of whom are residents.

At the moment, there are 1,389 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

205 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 110 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 28 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 64 who are critically ill and intubated.

Our ICU utilisation rate is currently at 55.2%, a slight rise from Monday’s 53.5%.

Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 4.6 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.8 and 41.8 respectively.
