It’s not every day that you witness a ‘boxing’ fight on the train.
It’s certainly not every day that you witness it here in sunny Singapore, where sweating men in collared shirts are common and fighting men in collared shirts are rare.
But well, what do you know? It has happened, and it happened over the most basic fight instigation rule of them all:
A staring incident, ladies and gentlemen.
Remember how your mum always cautioned you to not ‘stare’ at other people?
Well, this is probably why.
26YO Man Fined S$5000 For Starting Fight On MRT Train Over Staring Incident WIth 17YO Teenager
According to Channel News Asia, a man who initiated a fight on an MRT train has been sentenced to a $5,000 fine.
Muhammad Farid Jalil, 26, had confronted the other party, co-accused Irfan Akid Kamis when he felt that the latter was staring at him.
It culminated in a brief street fight, a scene which would not have been out of place in the new King Of Fighters mobile game.
According to reports, Farid, a 26-year-old food delivery rider, had boarded the train at Outram park and was reportedly heading towards Tanah Merah when he felt Irfan, 17, staring at him.
Farid then approached the teenager as the train neared Raffles Place. They began fighting, with Farid punching Irfan on the face.
The scene was documented on video and subsequently posted to Facebook page SBS – Sure Boh Singapore.

Maximum Fine Of $5,000 Imposed, But He’ll Serve A Jail Sentence Instead
The emergency communications button was activated, and an SMRT employee rushed to the scene. After administering first aid, she directed for the police to be informed.
Irfan sustained tenderness on his cheek and the back of his head, while Farid suffered a swollen, bruised lip, a small laceration and blood clots in his nostrils.
On the day of the court hearing, Farid turned up an hour late because he had mixed up the date of the hearing (25 Nov) with the court number. Instead of Court 12, he turned up at Court 25 instead.
Despite pleading for the minimum fine, he was given the maximum because of his actions.
After receiving the verdict, Farid asked whether he could pay by instalments, as he only earned $500 a month as a delivery driver.
The request was denied.
According to reports, he’ll likely be serving 2 weeks of jail in place of the fine.
Don’t Stare Stare, And Don’t Raise Your FistÂ
And so…Â the moral of the story?
Don’t stare in a non-complimentary way at other people. And if you’re being stared at in such a way…
Don’t engage.
Because as this incident serves to remind us, justice does not lie in the eye of the beholder.
It lies in the eye of the law.
So take a chill pill, relax and just let the other guy/girl admire you for what you’re worth. Because at the end of the day…
You’re not gonna remember any of it five years later, so what’s the point?
