Reader: Wait, isn’t this Goody Feed?
Sure, but there’s clearly nothing goody about our COVID-19 situation. At least not at the moment.
While infection rates will eventually decline in the future, our daily case count is still high, and optimism is waning.
For the time being, Saddy Feed would be more appropriate.
Yesterday, 129 new locally transmitted cases were reported, including 50 unlinked cases.
Here are the details:
10 New Clusters Reported
The last thing we need now is more COVID-19 clusters, so of course, the coronavirus decided to give us 10 new ones.
Among the ten new clusters is one linked to Seng Leong Steel (Ent), a stainless steel supplier located at Bukit Batok Industrial Park. It has three cases.
The other nine clusters are all linked to individual cases, with the number of infections ranging from three to four each.
In total, we now have 53 active clusters, after one was closed.
Punggol Pri Sch Cluster Grows to 12 Cases; Mandatory Tests For Students & Staff
Five more cases were also linked to the Punggol Primary School cluster, which now has 12 infections.
First reported on Wednesday (28 July), the cluster started with the infection of a cleaner at the school.
Now, students and staff at the school will have to undergo a mandatory swab test as the authorities hope to ringfence all possible infections.
Students will be placed on home-based learning until 6 Aug, and the school will be disinfected and cleaned.
Jurong Fishery Port Cluster Continues to Grow
30 of the new community cases were linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, which now has 969 infections. It remains our biggest active cluster.
Our second biggest cluster, the KTV lounges cluster, now has 248 infections after two more cases were added to it yesterday.
Free ART Kits For Visitors of 2 Markets
Visited Mayflower Market & Food Centre or Redhill Market in the last two weeks? Well, you’re eligible for a free antigen rapid test (ART) kit.
Simply head to the Residents’ Committee Centres near those markets from today till Sunday (1 Aug) to collect your kit.
The distribution is part of the health ministry’s efforts to fish out more infections linked to markets and food centres that were possibly brought over by fishmongers who visited Jurong Fishery Port.
572 Cases in Hospital; 3 in ICU
At the moment, there are 572 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
30 severe cases require oxygen supplementation and three are in the intensive care unit (ICU).
One of the 33 cases was fully vaccinated, but requires intensive care as she has underlying medical conditions, the Ministry of Health said.
24 cases are above 60 and have fallen very ill, of whom only one is fully vaccinated.
