Being the common Singaporean man, I’ve three main fears:

  • Not getting my CPF before I step into the grave
  • Being left on the shelf
  • Having a son as dysfunctional as me

Yet, even with the sheer severity of the aforementioned fears, they still fail to compete with this #1 all-time, chart-topping fear of mine:

Getting bitten by bed bugs while travelling.

Because let’s face it; we all expect a good time when travelling, seeing how we shelled out the bucks and effort to get there. So the worst thing that could happen is for you to fork out the money, only to have a torrid time.

Downright tragic, isn’t it?

Luckily, however, it has yet to happen to me. Though judging from the looks of it…

StarMart Express bus AKX15 is one vehicle I wouldn’t get close with a ten-foot pole.

What happened?

Recently, three social media posts have been circulating on Facebook, alleging that StarMart Express bus AKX15 has a serious bed bug problem.

Darren Lye, for one, stated that he took the bus from Taiping, Malaysia to Singapore. Having travelled on 6 Feb, he shared that seats number 26 and 27 were really dirty, with bedbugs present on the surface. Upon realising their existence, he informed the driver, only to be told to switch seats. No other actions were taken.

Below are photographs of Darren’s bedbug-inflicted injuries, though keep in mind that they’re graphic in nature and you should skip through if you’re squeamish in nature.

Lye’s older sister reiterated his suffering, expressing that he was bitten throughout his journey and that he sustained multiple itchy welts. She later claimed that many people have made similar complaints, but no actions were taken.

Moving on, a separate Facebook page, Johor My Hometown, shared an account of another passenger aboard AKX15 (which travelled to Singapore on 6 Feb). Similarly, the female passenger suffered bites, though this time it seems even worse for some have turned to blisters.

And to certify that it was the bus in question, there was an attached photograph of her bus ticket.

And last but definitely not least, we have a direct complaint on StarMart Simpang’s Facebook page itself, with the caption reading: “Same bus, different seat number, StarMart. Bus AKX15”.

For the record, the bites here are seemingly the worst, and if you’re genuinely squeamish in nature this might be a sight you wanna skim through.

Though, you’ve got to admit this doesn’t look remotely like bed bug bites. Unless bed bugs have mutated into something big, that is.

This is not the first time either

For StarMart Express has been in the news not once, but twice in the past three years for having bedbugs.

And really, with all things considered…

That’s probably one Express service I’m not in a hurry to get on.

Grassland, I’m counting on you again!
