3 Traffic Police Officers Investigated After Dashcam Shows Motorcycles Cutting in Front of Car in Ubi

Three Traffic Police officers are under investigation after dashcam footage surfaced showing them allegedly riding without due care along Ubi Avenue 3.

The incident reportedly happened at about 3am on 4 September and involved three Traffic Police motorcycles heading towards the Traffic Police Headquarters.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed on 13 September that it was aware of the incident and was investigating the officers’ actions.

Two Officers Cut in Front of Dashcam Car

The footage was posted on the SGRV ADMIN Facebook page on 11 September.

According to the video, the vehicle carrying the dashcam had turned right from Paya Lebar Road into Ubi Avenue 3. A taxi was also making the turn nearby.

Soon afterwards, two Traffic Police officers on motorcycles approached from the left and moved across in front of the dashcam vehicle.

The footage shows them passing through the space between the taxi and the dashcam car before heading towards the Traffic Police Headquarters.

The headquarters is located at 10 Ubi Avenue 3, according to SPF’s official website.

Third Officer’s Turn Causes Car to Brake

A third Traffic Police motorcycle then approached from the left as the dashcam vehicle neared the headquarters entrance.

The officer moved across the car’s path and made a right turn towards the headquarters, prompting the driver to brake suddenly, according to the footage and reports by The Straits Times, Mothership and AsiaOne.

People inside the vehicle could be heard reacting to the officers’ manoeuvres.

There have been no reports of a collision or injuries arising from the incident.

Police Say Appropriate Action Will Be Taken

SPF told the media that the three officers’ actions were being investigated.

“Their actions are being investigated, and appropriate action will be taken against them,” police said.

SPF added that it treats road safety seriously and expects its officers to follow traffic rules while exercising proper care and attention on the road.

Under Section 65 of the Road Traffic Act, motorists must not drive without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other road users. For an offence that does not result in hurt, grievous hurt or death, a first-time offender can face a fine of up to S$1,500, up to six months’ jail, or both upon conviction.

At this stage, the officers are being investigated. Police have not announced that any of them has been charged or found to have committed a traffic offence.
