An accident occurred on the North-South Expressway in Malaysia on 23 December, claiming the lives of seven people, including a 66-year-old Singaporean woman.

7 People, Including a S’porean, Killed in 3-Vehicle Collision in M’sia
According to initial investigations, it began when a tyre from a southbound lorry dislodged and landed in the middle lane.
A tour bus carrying 27 passengers struck the tyre, causing the driver to lose control and veer into the northbound lane.
The bus collided with an oncoming trailer. The trailer, in turn, smashed into an MPV and a sedan after hitting the road barrier.
The MPV, which had eight passengers, was completely crushed in the collision.
Five of the MPV occupants, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The tour bus driver and a 66-year-old Singaporean passenger also lost their lives in the crash.
Widespread Injuries and Extensive Rescue Efforts
In total, 33 people were injured in the crash and were transported to three hospitals: Melaka Hospital, Alor Gajah Hospital, and Pantai Ayer Keroh Hospital.
Among the injured were two other children from the MPV who received treatment at Melaka Hospital.
A team of 27 emergency personnel spent over 40 hours managing the wreckage and extricating victims.
Due to the incident, the northbound stretch near the Ayer Keroh Toll Plaza fully closed for hours, resulting in a traffic jam exceeding four hours.
The accident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act, which addresses reckless driving resulting in death. Melaka Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Pisar Aziz confirmed that the dislodged tyre was likely the primary cause of the crash.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and health committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem visited the injured victims at Alor Gajah Hospital on 24 December.
