It looks like the coronavirus is finally taking a break.
Shortly after Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) ended, infections rose and people started getting worried.
But in the last two days, we’ve had fewer than ten community cases, none of them unlinked. Yay!
What’s more, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has even changed its format for its daily coronavirus update, to mark “a new phase of battling the pandemic”.
10 New COVID-19 Cases; 5 From the Community
Yesterday (29 June), ten new COVID-19 cases were reported, five of which were from the community.
Four of these cases had already been placed in quarantine and one was detected through surveillance.
Fortunately, all of them had established links to previous cases.
There were also five imported cases who had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival here.
Of these, four were detected upon arrival, while one developed illness during the SHN or isolation period.
Declining Trend for Local Cases
The good news is that both community cases and unlinked infections have been going down.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 104 in the week before to 76 in the past week.
The number of unlinked community cases has also decreased from 17 in the week before to 12 in the past week.
34 Active Clusters
There are currently 34 active COVID-19 clusters in the country, ranging between three and 91 infections.
The biggest active cluster is the one at 115 Bukit Merah View Market & Food Centre, with 91 infections/
Next is MINDSville@Napiri cluster with 33 cases, followed by the Hong Ye Group cleaner cluster with 27 infections.
129 Cases in Hospitals
At the moment, there are 129 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
However, there are 11 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and three are in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Vaccination Progress
MOH said that there’s continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected.
Over the last 28 days, 23 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to ICU, or passed away. Among them, 20 were unvaccinated, 2 were partially vaccinated and 1 is fully vaccinated—the patient was already ill before infection.
In total, the government has administered a total of 5,378,041 doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme.
The total number of doses administered was 5,378,041, covering 3,279,411 individuals.
2,098,630 individuals have received their second dose and completed the full vaccination regimen.
