It’s been a long drive, but it seems like we’re finally reaching the light at the end of the tunnel.
Community cases have dwindled dramatically in the last couple of days, and more importantly, no unlinked cases have been reported for three consecutive days.
Yes, it seems like the coronavirus is out of breath and taking a break.
5 Community Cases Reported Yesterday; All Linked
As you know, the Ministry of Health (MOH) is no longer disclosing details of new cases, as it’s focusing on our vaccine efforts and severe cases of COVID-19, among other things.
In total, 16 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday, of whom 5 were from the community. All had established links to previous cases.
In addition, 11 imported infections were detected. All had been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
6 were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while the remaining 5 developed the illness during SHN or isolation.
Changi General Hospital Cluster Now has 16 Cases
The Changi General Hospital, now our 4th largest active cluster, has a total of 16 cases linked to it after three new infections were added to it yesterday.
A new cluster has also formed – it’s linked to a 76-year-old woman who tested positive when she visited Singapore General Hospital for an unrelated medical condition has formed.
The woman’s infection was reported on 26 June as Case 64478.
The COVID-19 clusters linked to cases 63743 and 63887 have been closed as no more cases were linked to them in the past two incubation periods, or 28 days.
This brings the total number of active clusters in Singapore to 33, with infections ranging between 3 and 91.
The largest among these is still the one at 115 Bukit Merah View Market & Food Centre.
Significant Decrease in Community & Unlinked Cases
Fortunately, the declining trend for our community and unlinked cases is continuing.
Overall, the number of new community cases has decreased from 98 in the week before to 68 in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also fallen from 19 in the week before to 9 in the past week.
The 7-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 8.4 and 1.3 respectively.
133 Cases in Hospital
At the moment, there are 133 COVID-19 cases in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.
There are currently 8 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 4 in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The health ministry reiterated that there’s continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected.
Vaccination Progress
As of 29 June 2021, the authorities have administered around 5.42 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme.
More than 3.32 million people in Singapore have been at least partially vaccinated, with 2.1 million people completed their vaccination regimen.
This means that 58.1% of our population has received at least one dose, while 36.8% have been fully vaccinated.
