While the vaccination rate continues to ascend, it seems that Singapore is pulling the plug on several of its vaccination centres…
Much to the chagrin of prospective part-timers, I’m sure.
4 Vaccination Centres to Close by End-Sep; More Clinics to Offer Jabs
Earlier today (14 September 2021), Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary had announced the impending closure of four vaccination centres.
They are expected to close their doors by the end of September.
And these four won’t be the only ones either. Others are expected to follow suit as the local vaccination rate continues increasing.
Thus far, we’re at 81%.
However, this does not mean that Singapore’s abandoning vaccinations altogether. To make up for an imminent decrease in vaccination centres, they will be increasing the number Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPCs) that offer vaccinations.
By end October, the number of eligible clinics is expected to increase from the current 79 to 100.
Meanwhile, we currently have 37 vaccinations centres that are in operation.
What About Those Who Can’t Go To Either?
So maybe there’s someone out there with distinct mobility issues, who can’t visit either a vaccination centre or a PHP.
What then?
Well, apparently, the Government will deploy their mobile and home vaccination teams for such cases.
So in a sense, vaccines will always be on standby.
Standstill
Despite a promising vaccination rate here, Singapore will be halting the nation’s reopening plans for now.
The primary reason? You guessed it. With hundreds of new community cases every day, it would be hard-pressed to proceed as plan.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has also debunked falsehoods about the COVID-19 vaccines. Some have avoided vaccination due to possible misinformation on the vaccines, as well as their side effects.
Understand the importance of vaccination here:
COVID-19 Situation
Earlier today, it was announced that there were 597 locally transmitted cases yesterday (13 September 2021).
534 hailed from the community, while 53 were from migrant workers’ dormitories.
Of the community cases, 157 were seniors above the age of 60.
In addition, ten imported cases were recorded; four were detected upon arrival while the remaining six developed the illness during their quarantine.
In total, 607 cases were detected yesterday.
At present, there are 774 COVID-19 cases warded in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.
57 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, and eight are in critical condition in the
intensive care unit.
Of these 65 cases, 51 are seniors above the age of 60.
Our vaccination progress remains at 81%. 84% have received at least one dose.
