Chomp Chomp Hawker Centre, I believe, is no stranger to Singaporeans. Located at Serangoon Gardens, this hawker centre has been a popular eating place for many of us as it offers a wide variety of local gourmet at reasonable prices. Here’s what to look out for and try when you’re heading there!
Lucy BBQ Seafood
There’s no such thing as missing out on the sweet and succulent meat of the BBQ stingray! With that little pinch of spiciness from the sambal chili , it’s sure to leave you wanting for more!
Chomp Chomp Satay
This is another local dish that has been highly raved about. The meat is well-marinated and chewy. Coupled with the thick traditional peanut sauce that habours the slight sweetness from the pineapple puree, it is sure to tantalise your tastebuds!
Chia Keng Fried Hokkien Mee
There’s 2 variations of the Hokkien Mee at this stall. You can opt for the traditional style of Hokkien Mee or if you’re looking to switch things up a little, the fried version of the Hokkien Mee would be perfect for you. Served in an Opeh leaf, topped with succulent, fresh prawns and some chewy squid, it’s sure to make your mouth water!
Carrot Cake
This isn’t a joke okay. There’s legit no name for this stall. The signboard just writes “菜頭粿”, which legitimately means carrot cake. Aiya, no name but the food got reputation okay! Don’t play play. As many of you already know, there’s two types of carrot cake in Singapore. One being the “black” with sweet black sauce added and the “white” that is served with egg, preserved radish (chye poh) and garlic. Besides these 2 versions of carrot cake, they sell Oyster Omelettes (orh luak) too. However, the stall is more well known for their white carrot cake and their oyster omelettes. Imagine the aroma of the freshly fried eggs wafting over you, doesn’t that just make your mouth water?
You Yi Fish Porridge
Feeling a little unwell? Or just feel like eating something that is healthier and lighter? Check out the fish porridge here! The soup is flavourful due to the addition of dried shrimps (hae bi) and dried sole fish. Also, the fish that is used in the porridge is fresh. Since everyone is dying to try out all the fried and oily flavoured foods, the queue for this stall is generally much shorter. This is especially ideal for people who can’t stand waiting but yet still want something that is delicious.
Pfft, just another recommendation- With our humid weather and the not so good ventilation in the hawker centre, chill down in the heat with a really gigantic glass of sugarcane juice with just $3! (I’m not joking it’s really big). If you’re just looking for a smaller portion, you can get a smaller glass for $1.50. The prices of sugarcane juice here are slightly steeper compared to the other hawker centres but it’s the quality that you’re getting! These refreshing and juicy cups of goodness are just the perfect accompaniment to the delectable dishes here at Chomp Chomp! With that, have fun chomping! (Omnomnomnom!!)
