Not all of us have sufficient funds for a full trip out of the country, or perhaps some of us are lazy to go through the hassle of having to clear customs and pack bulky suitcases full of clothes and essentials.
But did you know that a staycation in Singapore can also be as fun as travelling overseas, without the added inconvenience caused by having to fill in travel forms and all that?
Here are 5 fun ideas for you to have a staycation in Singapore, other than going to hotels which can be quite chor on the wallet, that can beat travelling overseas.
Airbnb
Airbnb has been gaining popularity lately for its offerings of affordable and convenient accommodation, allowing travelers to stay in places with accessible locations at a considerably lower price than hotels.
Places range from single rooms to a whole mansion, depending on the location. However, despite being used frequently by overseas travelers, did you know that there are actually Airbnb locations available for rent in Singapore?
Technically it is illegal and should not be condoned, but…use at your own risk if you’re desperate to know what staying in another part of Singapore feels like.
Changi Airport
Sure, you won’t have the same amenities such as your own toilet or a comfortable bed, but staying overnight at Changi Airport will definitely be an interesting experience. You can roam the halls and enjoy the free aircon, free wifi and carpeted floors, and visit plenty of stores before settling into one of the comfortable cushioned chairs and sleep.
There’s something exciting about being surrounded by people that might end up in a different country the next day, and this flow of arrival and departure passengers is certainly something interesting, definitely making for a unique experience.
Camping
Yes, this means pitching a tent in the middle of nowhere. You can’t deny that this will be fairly exciting, since most of us probably don’t go camping frequently, so why not go now?
Get to know what it feels like to sleep while surrounded by nature, with only the sounds of the wind and the sea to hear and the stars to see in the night sky.
This will surely be an experience you can’t forget. But do take note that camping is illegal in some areas and places such as Pasir Ris Park and the East and West Coast Parks require a permit. However, if you are up to taking a trip to Pulau Ubin, you’re allowed to camp without a permit!
Sleepover
Yes this might sound really common and boring, but have you ever thought about how staying over at your friend’s house is actually a pretty good staycation environment?
For one, you get to stay in a place that feels homely and is equipped with full facilities, and two you get to bond with your friend, which might not be so easy to find time for nowadays.
Chalets
Remember the days spent with family or friends while having a large barbecue and just chatting comfortable amidst the delicious smell of food cooking? Why not relive that experience again?
Chalets are a great option for groups of people and are a more affordable and casual alternatives to hotels since they provide useful facilities such as BBQ pits, karaoke rooms and sometimes bowling alleys etc.
Singapore has no lack of chalets, with many located near to popular destinations that will ensure that your stay there will be fun and exciting!
