PM Lee: COVID-19’s Impact On Economy Has Exceeded Sars; May Experience Recession

According to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, there is a possibility of Singapore experiencing a recession due to the fact that the impact of COVID-19 on our economy has exceeded that of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) in 2003.

PM Lee said, “I can’t say whether we will have a recession or not. It’s possible, but definitely our economy will take a hit.”

This also comes after the fact that there are already 67 confirmed cases in Singapore, and while flights are down and businesses at Jewel Changi Airport have been hit hard, staff and crew members have to continue working to keep Singapore open for business.

He also mentioned that Singapore is working with our neighbours so as to enhance our cooperation in fighting this virus.

Patients With Respiratory Symptoms To Be Given 5-Day MC

Doctors have been asked to give those with respiratory symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose, a five-day medical leave in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

MOH recognises that many local confirmed cases had previously continued to mix with people who were well despite them feeling ill, so they have urged employers and employees to “follow strictly the five-day MC regime that has been put in place”.

MOH said, “Most patients with respiratory symptoms are not infected with COVID-19. But we must take extra precautions. It is therefore important that anyone with respiratoy symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose) seek medical treatment early, and stay home throughout their illness.
