Let’s face it: in this social media world, exciting and viral news like a cat feeding a baby bear would often appear in your Facebook news feed, while important news like the GDP growth of Singapore this year wouldn’t get the same reach.
It’s understandable since social media platforms would prioritise engaging and viral contents to keep users in their platform.
In order to ensure that you’d still know about important news instead just social news, below are the top five Singapore news that was reported yesterday which you should know, simplified for you in a bite-sized format:
Bus Crashes Into Pillar Near Changi Airport T2; Driver Was Pinned In His Seat
A 62-year-old bus driver had to be extricated from a bus when he crashed into a concrete pillar near Changi Airport Terminal 2.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said, “The front of the bus was badly crushed inwards, pinning the driver to his seat.”
It took the SCDF an arduous 45 minutes before they could free the driver, and they did so by prying the dashboard which had pinned his legs using a slew of hydraulic rescue equipment. He was then brought to Changi General Hospital (CGH) while still conscious.
Six out of eight passengers between the ages of 24 and 72 were also injured from the accident and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Of which, four of them have already been discharged. The other two passengers and the driver are in stable condition.
It is not known how the accident occurred but investigations are ongoing.

More Efforts To Re-Train Middle-Aged Workers
According to Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing, the government will be ramping up efforts to train middle-aged workers in their 40s and 50s with new skills so that they are able to take on jobs of the future.
He said, “We are determined not to leave behind any of our middle-aged workers because they’ve got a good 10 to 15 years ahead of them. If any country can muster the resources to do this, Singapore must be one of them, and that is our promise.”

15 People Have Been Denied Entry Into Singapore Due To New Travel Restrictions
After the travel restriction of barring those with travel history to China within the last 14 days was put in place since Saturday 11.59pm, 15 travellers have been denied entry into Singapore.
According to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), they were rejected at around 1pm on Sunday.
ICA said, “They comprise one Spanish, one British, one Malaysian, two US, five PRC and five Indian passport holders, due to either their travel histories to mainland China in the last 14 days, or suspension of visa facilities.”
The restriction was put in place to curb the spread of the Wuhan virus in our country, especially since we already have 18 confirmed cases.
