Children from lower-income families will enjoy more financial and social help. Pre-school education will be free for some.
NTUC First Campus will raise the monthly household income ceiling for its child support schemes from $3,500 to $4,500 from January 2020.
This is projected to assist more than 10,000 children from low-income families in the next five years.

Singapore’s Core Inflation Remains Unchanged At 0.8% In August
Core inflation in August remained at 0.8%, unchanged from July. In July, it had eased to its slowest pace in more than three years.
Overall inflation increased slightly to 0.5% in August from 0.4% in July.
The reason for the increase was mainly because of higher private road transport inflation and a smaller decline in accommodation costs.

Man Jailed 8 Weeks For Bribing Airport Worker To Under-report Baggage Weight
On Monday, 23 September 2019, Gopal Krishna Raju was sentenced to eight weeks in jail for giving more than $800 in bribes to an airport check-in worker. In return, the airport worker would under-report the weight of travellers’ bags on Tigerair flights.
These bags contained gold and the offences were committed over the course of more than 10 months.
Gopal was a former manager at a food-processing firm had a side business where gold was transported from Singapore to Chennai before it was sold in India. He pleaded guilty to a corruption charged last Friday.

Malaysia Defers Enforcement Of Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) During Peak Hour Traffic
Malaysia announced on Monday, 23 September 2019 that the enforcement of the vehicle entry permit (VEP) “during peak-hour traffic operation” will be delayed until further notice.
Peak-hours refer to the following hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 5am-11am, 7pm-10am
- Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 4pm-3am, 1pm-4pm
This is because there were “several issues” which includes difficulties in scheduling appointments to install the RFID tags.

Air Quality At Unhealthy Level But Incoming Rain Might Clear Up The Haze
The air quality on Monday morning was in the unhealthy range across the region. The south was the worst hit, with a PSI of 117.
The worsening haze situation on Sunday was due to the wind blowing haze from Kalimantan. However, rain is expected in the coming week, which might help to clear up the haze.
There were 474 hot spots in Kalimantan as of last Sunday.
