S’pore Parents Scalded & Beat 5YO Boy To Death; Put Him In A Cage & Pinched Him With Pliers
A 5-year-old boy died after being subjected to various kinds of abuse from his parents, including being confined in a cage meant for the family’s pet cat.
He was also pinched with pliers on his thighs and buttocks, hit with objects like a broom and hanger, and was scalded with hot water.
His parents, Azlin Arujunah and Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman, both 27, both face the charge of murder with common intention, which carries the death penalty.
They are also facing charges for the ill-treatment of the child and voluntarily causing hurt by means of a heated substance.

All Immigration Checkpoints To Have Fingerprint And Face Scans By 2025
Security clearances at all immigration checkpoints in Singapore will be fully automated by 2025 with the introduction of fingerprint, facial, and iris scans.
This is part of the nation’s plan to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for social and economic benefits.
Using AI as these borders will make immigration checks a faster and more seamless experience. It will also reduce human error and enable immigration officers to focus on other duties like vetting visitors who may require closer scrutiny.

Air Quality Enters Unhealthy Range In Eastern Singapore
The country experienced slightly hazy conditions as the air quality entered the unhealthy range in eastern Singapore on Wednesday morning (Nov 13).
The 24-hour PSI first entered the unhealthy range at 10am in the East with a reading of 101.
This was due to an accumulation of particles in the air, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said. The haziness is expected to improve once the winds strengthen, as they’ll help to disperse pollutants.

Court To Hear 3 Challenges To Section 377A
A High Court judge will hear three challenges to the law that criminalises sex between men from Wednesday (Nov 13).
According to Section 377A of the penal code, any man who commits any act of “gross indecency” with another man in public or in private can be jailed for up to two years.
Lawyers say their main arguments will be based on scientific evidence to say that homosexuality is a natural variant of human sexual orientation and that the law violates the constitution.

Over 300 Food-Delivery Riders Turn Up To Lam Pin Min’s MTP Session
In what was the largest turnout so far, more than 300 food-delivery riders and retailers came to a meet-the-people session on Tuesday (Nov 12).
On Nov 5, Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) including e-scooters were banned on footpaths. In this latest MTP session, riders were able to voice out their frustrations to Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State for Transport, the one who announced the ban last week.
Many riders at the event suggested reversing the ban and criticised the decision behind it.
