MFA Advises S’poreans to Defer Non-Essential Travel to Hong Kong

Unless you’ve lived under a rock, you’d know about the protests in Hong Kong that have run out of control.

With violent protests occurring even in the airport, MFA has advised Singaporeans to “defer non-essential travel to Hong Kong, given current developments.” As for Singaporeans who are already there, “you should take all necessary precautions to ensure your personal safety. You are advised to stay vigilant, monitor developments through the local news and heed the instructions of the local authorities…You should avoid protests and large public gatherings, and stay in touch with your family and friends so that they know you are safe.”

Singapore Exports Shrinks for the Fifth Straight Month

We need exports so that more money will flow into Singapore.

But for the fifth straight month, Singapore’s exports shrank, dropping 11.2% for non-oil exports, as shipments of electronics and pharmaceuticals decreased. However, that’s better than the projected drop of 15.2% by 11 economists.

Restaurant Investigated for Misleading Discount Claims

Ever seen shops promising a discount that’ll end today, and seeing the same discount the next day again? Well, apparently, if you do that, you would be on Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore’s (CCCS) radar.

Yesterday, it was reported that a Thai restaurant has deals that allegedly would end soon, but went on for at least two years. The restaurant has “ended” the deals, and CCCS has a warning to other businesses: “CCCS is also closely monitoring other businesses that engage in similar unfair practices … Businesses are reminded not to engage in any practices that are likely to mislead consumers.”

TP’s Operation Caught 25 Heavy Vehicle Drivers Committing Offences in Less Than 2 Hours

If you’re a driver, you’d have seen heavy vehicles breaking the rules: from failing to keep left to overloading.

It was reported yesterday that on 15 August 2019, the TP conducted an enforcement operation with LTA and issued 26 summonses, with 25 going to heavy vehicle drivers. One driver was even caught using his phone while driving.

So, to all heavy vehicle drivers: you’ve been warned.

3 Men Arrested for Robber in AMK jewellery Shop

On 14 August 2019, a man jumped over the counter of an AMK jewellery shop and ran off with $100,000 worth of jewelleries.

Within 36 hours, three men were arrested. One of them was charged yesterday (15 August 2019) while the other two would be charged today. It’s unknown what roles the other two have in the heist.
