Chiam See Tong, 84, Steps Down As SPP Leader After Four Decades In Politics
Veteran opposition politician Chiam See Tong, 84, has stepped down from his leadership post at the Singapore People’s Party (SPP).
This happened at the SPP’s biennial Ordinary Party Conference, with him giving up his post as secretary-general.
He has been in politics for over four decades.
The front runners for the new secretary-general are Mr Raymond and organising secretary Steve Chia, 48, former Non-Constituency MP from the National Solidarity Party.
Chiam became Singapore’s longest-serving opposition MP until 2011’s general election, where he left Potong Pasir to lead an SPP team in the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

8 Families Discover They Have Been Visiting The Wrong Graves For 39 Years
For 39 years, Mr Marn Chuan Lee paid respects to his grandmother’s grave at least once every three months.
When the grave was dug up in August, he saw stuffed toys, colour pencils and a necklace he did not recognise.

According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), the burials done 39 years ago were all done on a single day, with other gravestones being wrongly tagged to grave plots.
This episode is the first time the NEA has encountered such an issue in the 16,800 exhumations conducted as of 30 September.
NEA has said that the buried remains of all affected families have since been verified.

Former Chief Justice Says Section 377A Is Outdated And Discriminates Against Males
Former Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong said in a 72-page paper that he felt Section 377A violates the fundamental rights of all to equality.

He says that law based on sex or gender must be rational.
Chan mentioned that 377A was enacted in 1938 to be a law against male prostitution, citing that it was a problem back then for law and order, public morality and wholesome government.
He says the decision not to repeal was based on a misunderstanding of what the section meant.
There will be three court challenges to be heard on November 2019.

5 Taken To Hospital After Accident Along Bedok Reservoir Road
Yesterday, five people were taken to hospital after a road traffic accident along Bedok Reservoir Road.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to the accident at about 8.15am.

5 NEL Stations To Close Early On Some Days in November Due To Maintenance Works
Five stations on the North East Line (NEL) will close earlier on some days in November due to track maintenance and component replacement works for the train line’s power and signalling systems.
The MRT stations include Kovan, Hougang, Buangkok, Sengkang, and Punggol.
These stations will close at about 11pm on the first four Fridays and Saturdays in November.
