PA Grassroots Adviser Slams WP Chief Pritam Singh’s Allegation Of ‘Double Standards’

The People’s Association’s (PA) grassroots adviser has hit back at Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh’s allegation that the completion of a barrier-free access ramp was delayed because it was mooted by the opposition party.

Mr Chua called Mr Singh’s remarks “unsubstantiated”, and criticised him for making “politically divisive and factually inaccurate comments”.

NTU Building & Road Renamed To Mark Pioneers’ Contributions

A building and road at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have been renamed to mark pioneers’ contributions to the development of Singapore’s education system.

The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CoHASS) building has been named the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) Building, while Nanyang Valley, a road adjacent to the Chinese Heritage Centre, will be renamed the Tan Lark Sye Walk.

Singapore & China Sign Defence Agreement To Scale Up Army, Navy Exercises

On Sunday (Oct 20), Singapore and China signed an updated defence agreement to scale up bilateral military exercises, provide mutual logistics support and establish a regular dialogue.

The countries had agreed to sign the enhanced Agreement on Defence Exchanges and Security Cooperation (ADESC) in May when Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen met General Wei Fenghe at the MINDEF building.

The enhanced ADESC formalises activities between Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including port calls, bilateral exercises, mutual visits and cross-attendance of courses.

SDP Organizes ‘Pre-election’ Rally, Says PAP Has Not Kept Its Promises

On Saturday (Oct 19), The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) held what it called a pre-election rally at Hong Lim Park.

The SDP raised numerous issues including the cost of living, the impending GST hike, and the need for more diverse voices in Parliament.

The party members also spoke was how the People’s Action Party (PAP) has not kept promises it made in the 2015 General Election.

One of these unkept promises, according to SDP leader Chee Soon Juan, was that the elderly poor will live in peace and dignity.

Plans To Help Firms & Workers Build New Capabilities

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing said that one of the focuses of next year’s Budget will be building up the capability of companies, workers and new sectors to thrive in a challenging economy.

He added that smaller firms will soon benefit from an enhanced version of Scale-up Singapore, a scheme that aims to help groups of high-growth firms become known internationally.
