27YO Crashed Car Into Playground in Bukit Merah
The police said yesterday (21 December 2019) that a 27-year-old man has been arrested after crashing his car into a playground at Bukit Merah on Friday at around 11:58 p.m.
The man was driving under the influence of drugs and did not even have a valid driving license.
In addition, he also resisted arrest.
Thankfully, other than the man who sustained minor injuries, no one else was injured.

HDB Has Spent About $2.9 Billion to Upgrade Old Flats
HDB released a statement on the progress of their Home Improvement Programme yesterday, and as of 31 March this year, they have spent a whopping $2.9 billion to upgrade old HDB flats.
Currently, about 170,400 flats have been upgraded while 132,300 are still undergoing upgrading.
All these flats were built before 1986, and the programme started in 2007.

Survey Shows Top News in 2019 Were E-Scooter Ban, Hong Kong Protests & Christchurch Terror Attack
A survey done by research firm Blackbox Research revealed that the top news events ranked by Singaporeans were the e-scooter ban, the Hong Kong protests and the mass shooting in Christchurch.
The poll involved 1,000 Singaporeans aged 15 and above.
For just local news, the e-scooter ban topped the list while the next two news events that made it to the top were the public transport fare hike and the late Aloysius Pang’s passing.

Seven NSL MRT Stations to Close Early from January to March 2020
Novena, Toa Payoh, Braddell, Bishan, Yishun, Khatib and Yio Chu Kang will close early on some Fridays and Saturdays between January 2020 to March 2020. This is to facilitate maintenance and renewal works.
Shuttle buses would be deployed as an alternative form of transport.
As SMRT is also installing new power cables, noise barriers will also be installed in February and March.

About 96% of Dengue Clusters Discovered at the Start of this Year Have Been Closed
Despite the wet weather that could contribute to more breeding sites, the goody news is that 96% of the dengue clusters that were discovered at the start of this year has been closed.
For a cluster to be closed, there should be no new cases of dengue for two weeks.
As of last week, though, there were still 67 active clusters. NEA has once again reminded people to take preventive measures against dengue.
