Mosquito Traps Planted by NEA Destroying More Mosquito Breeding Habitats

If you’ve seen a mini black rubbish bin lying around your HDB estate, don’t kick it or feed it to your cat: they’re Gravitraps used to attract and trap the female Aedes mosquitoes that are looking to lay their eggs.

Since 2017, about 50,000 Gravitraps have been deployed in HDB estates islandwide, and it’s working: the NEA said yesterday that the traps detected and destroyed 21% more breeding habitats in 2018 compared to 2017.

And soon, another 14,000 will be in landed estates and new HDBs.

Singapore Core Inflation Dropped to a 3-Year-Low for July 2019

First of all, core inflation is different from the normal inflation: it excludes volatile prices like your girlfriend’s mood housing or private road transport, but it still contributes a lot to the overall inflation.

For July 2019, the year-on-year growth dropped to 0.8%—the lowest since April 2016. There is a larger decline in electricity and gas costs. The entire year’s core inflation would be about 1% to 2%.

From a layman’s point of view, it means that our money might not be getting much stronger—not that it’s something we’ve not expected. We don’t have much of them anyways.
