At least 500 units of ceiling fans from 17 models by Elmark Marketing are being recalled. This comes after checks showed that they could pose safety problems.
Some of these safety issues include the fans possibly falling, electrocuting someone, or causing a fire. This was announced in a statement issued by product safety agency Enterprise Singapore.

2 Attempts Of Piracy In Singapore Strait On 23 December; Total Of Five Attacks In 4 Days
Come nightfall, pirates attacked two vessels, a bulk carrier and a tanker in two separate incidents in the Singapore Strait on Monday.
The total number of similar piracy incidences in Singapore Strait increased to a total of five in four days. The most recent attack happened after midnight and within two hours of each other.

Woman Jailed 4 Years For Cheating Employer Of Almost $800k
A woman cheated her employer of almost $800,000 in the span of about five years, from 2014 to 2018. She managed to cheat her employers by submitting more than 700 fake travel claims.
It was announced in court that Tan Nyuk Hong used the money on soccer betting, personal expenses and paying her debtors. She has not returned the money to her former company, software company Autodesk Asia.
She was given four years in jail.

More Singaporeans Buy Pet Insurance For Dogs And Cats Due To Rising Vet Fees
There are a growing number of pet owners who are getting their dogs and cats insured. This comes after a rise in veterinary fees which can vary from more than $100 for an annual checkup to $20,000 for a major surgery.
General Insurance Association of Singapore chief executive Ho Kai Weng said, “In Singapore, pet ownership is on the rise, but so are the medical expenses, especially when treating conditions that require long-term care,” he said.

Singapore Business Owner Jailed For Under-reporting S$1.28 Million Income
A consultancy services provider has been given six months in jail and made to pay a penalty for evading taxes, according to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) on Monday.
Ng Wee Kheng, who is the sole proprietor of a consultancy service company submitted false income tax returns and under-reported a whopping S$1.28 million in trade income.
