Law Minister Weighs in On NUS Student Molestation Case; AGC Intends to Appeal

Just like the Monica Baey’s case, a new “saga” involving an NUS student has gone extremely viral.

Terence Siow was let go with a mere probation after molesting a lady last year. Law Minister K Shanmugam posted on Facebook, saying that he was “surprised” at the verdict, too.

The AGC intends to appeal the sentence meted out to Siow.

DFS Allegedly Laid Off About 60 Staff

Last month, it was reported that DFS is “closing shop” in Changi Airport in 2020, and the staff there could be deployed to other DFS outlets in Singapore.

However, yesterday, it was reported that they have laid off about 60 staff, most of them at its T Galleria by DFS outlet in Scotts Road. Yeah, we’re not talking about the one in Changi Airport.

DFS’s official comment is that they have decided to “rebalance its workforce”, but have not responded to queries about the reported layoffs.

Active Mobility Advisory Panel Suggests Minimum Age & a Theory Test for PMD Riders

It’s no longer news when PMD accidents occur on the streets, but the authorities aren’t going to keep the status quo.

The Active Mobility Advisory Panel, a panel set up in 2015 to look at how to govern the use of PMDs, submitted their latest recommendations and that includes a minimum riding age of 16. Also, they suggested a theory test to be taken before they can be on public paths.

Last year, the panel’s recommendations were accepted, so there’s a high chance that this new set of rules might be implemented in the near future, too.

Accused Involved in Orchard Tower Murder Arrested After Skipping Bail

Three months back, in July, seven people were charged with murder. Tan Hong Sheng is one of them, but his charge was reduced to consorting with a person carrying an offensive weapon.

The 22-year-old was out on bail and skipped bail for a month, but was arrested on Thursday. Yesterday, he was charged for yet another offence for rioting in August, when he was on bail.

Some people just don’t learn.

Haze Could End Next Week

And finally, some goody news.

The Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) (note, not NEA hor), which has been monitoring the region’s haze for more than 20 years, said that increased rainfall could improve the situation.

The rain forecast has already been announced by NEA, and in the last few days, it’s indeed true that we can breathe easily.

So, are we finally out of the woods?
