22YO Motorcyclist Dies In Accident With Lorry At Woodlands

A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after a road accident with a lorry on a slip road near Woodlands on Saturday (Nov 2).

The accident occurred along Seletar Expressway towards Central Expressway, on a slip road into Woodlands Avenue 2.

Police were called to the scene at 8.15am and the motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver, a 27-year-old man, is helping the police with investigations.

NUS Student Monica Baey Receives AWARE Award For Speaking Out Against Sexual Harassment

NUS student Monica Baey has been given the “Woman of Courage” award by the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware).

In April, Baey posted a series of Instagram stories expressing anger over the punishment of Mr Nicholas Lim, as he had only been issued a conditional warning police and a one semester suspension from the university after filming her in the shower at the Eusoff Hall student residence in the National University of Singapore (NUS) last November.

Aware said that Baey had “bravely stood up for herself after an experience of sexual harassment on campus”.

Road In Bidadari Estate Near Former Malay Secondary School Site To Be Named Sang Nila Utama Road

A road in the upcoming Bidadari Estate will be named Sang Nila Utama Road, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced on Sunday (Nov 3).

The road is located right next to the site of the former Malay-medium Sang Nila Utama Secondary School (SNU).

“This is something that the Malay community has been asking for, because of the important role that Sang Nila Utama Secondary School played in developing Malay education in Singapore,” said Mr Heng.

Rare Disease Fund Now Covers Pompe Disease, A Rare Inherited Neuromuscular Disorder

The Rare Disease Fund (RDF) will now cover Singaporeans with Pompe disease – a rare inherited neuromuscular disorder where patients can incur medical expenses amounting to $500,000 each year.

The RDF is a charity fund that seeks to provide long-term financial support for patients with rare diseases requiring treatment with high-cost medicines. It is managed by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) Health Fund.

They announced on Sunday (Nov 3) that Singaporeans can now apply for financial assistance to help with their medical expenses for the disease which affects about one in every 40,000 live births.

Fire Breaks Out At Choa Chu Kang Cemetery

On Saturday (Nov 2), a fire broke out at Choa Chu Kang Cemetery complex just before noon.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to the fire near Christian Cemetery Path 6 at about 11.50am.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
