CNB Officer Allegedly Assaulted Man Multiple Times To Get A Confession Out Of him
A Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officer allegedly assaulted a man more than once to get a confession out of him. The confession had to do with drugs found allegedly belonging to the man.
32-year-old Vengedesh Raj Nainar Nagarajam was charged in court on 4 October with three counts of voluntarily causing hurt to extort a confession.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to seven years and fined or caned for each charge.

New Measures Will Help Employers Retain Domestic Helpers For A Longer Time
It is becoming increasingly common for domestic helpers in Singapore to end their employment before the two-year contract is up.
Two in three foreign domestic workers (FDW) had their employment contracts cancelled prematurely. In 2018, about 250 employers changed five or more domestic workers within the span of one year.
In total, Singapore has around 1,000 maid agencies and about 250,000 domestic workers.

MCI and MinLaw Says That The Online Citizen’s Editor Terry Xu’s Facebook Post Contains Falsehoods
The Online Citizen and its editor published an article and a Facebook post on the fake news laws. According to the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and the Ministry of Law (MinLaw), both of these contain ‘falsehoods’.
The post “incorrectly assert that ministers can use the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (Pofma) during the elections to restrict and curtail online content”.

Total Ban Of PMDs Might Be A Reality If Users’ Continue To Be Reckless
A complete ban on the use of personal mobility devices (PMDs) in Singapore might be a reality if users’ behaviours do not improve.
According to Senior Minister of State for Transport Janil Puthucheary said on 7 October that the Government may have no choice but to do it.
As of now, it is looking at strategies to improve the safe use of PMDs due to the increasing number of PMD related accidents and fires.

Around 75% Of Industrial Emissions Are From Refining And Petrochemicals Sector
On 7 October, Singapore’s contribution to planet-warming emissions was pointed out in Parliament. The government is currently encouraging existing industries to cut their emissions.
