Jurong West & Bahar Junction Stations On Jurong Region Line To Be Completed By 2026
The construction of two stations on the new Jurong Region Line (JRL) is expected to start in 2020 and is slated for completion in 2026.
The two stations are Jurong West and Bahar Junction, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Monday (Dec 9).
The stations will be part of Singapore’s seventh MRT line, the JRL, which is set to open in three stages from 2026.

Singapore Swimmers Set New SEA Games Record in 50m Freestyle Heats
Singapore swimmers Jonathan Tan and Teong Tzen Wei set a new SEA Games record on Monday (Dec 9) after they both clocked the same time (22.46) in the men’s 50m freestyle heats.
The two broke the record set by Joseph Schooling in the 2015 games who clocked a time of (22.47).
Tan, 17, and Teong, 22, have both qualified for the finals of the event.
Singapore’s swimmers have won a total of 18 golds so far in the competition.

Maid Dies In Hit & Run Accident After Car Slams Into Walkway; Man Arrested
A 49-year-old domestic helper was killed after a car went out of control and hit her while she was walking on a covered walkway outside Farrer Road MRT station in Bukit Timah.
The Filipino victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
The police said they were called in at 6 am after a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian and a car in Farrer Road, heading towards Queensway was reported.
The police subsequently arrested a 24-year-old suspect for causing death by dangerous driving.

Couple Arrested Over Airsoft Gun On East Coast Park Service Road
A man and a woman were arrested at East Coast Park on Saturday (Dec 9) for having an airsoft gun in their possession.
A spokesman for the police said they were called in or assistance at Block 429 Woodlands Street 41 at around 2.20pm.
Police later detained the 34-year-old man and 30-year-old woman who are believed to be a couple.
Anyone who possesses an airsoft gun or a stun gun without a valid licence can be fined up to $5,000 for each gun and jailed for up to three years.

Health Experts Warn of Emerging Threat of Nipah Virus
Global health and infectious disease specialists have warned about the “serious epidemic potential” of the deadly Nipah virus after it caused human outbreaks across South and South East Asia.
The virus has sparked outbreaks with mortality rates of between 40 per cent and 90 per cent, spreading thousands of kilometers to Bangladesh and India.
Even though it was discovered two decades ago, there are still no drugs or vaccines to treat the disease.
