Singapore’s Former Chief Justice Yong Pung How Dies At 93
Known as the person who helped to reform Singapore’s court system into something way more efficient, former Chief Justice Yong Pung How passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 93.
He entered the legal field in 1953 where he was appointed as an arbitrator by the Singapore Government to resolve a conflict between the Government and a union. The union was then represented by a young lawyer, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who went on to become Singapore’s first prime minister in 1959.
He officially retired on 10 April 2006 at the age of 80 after 53 years in the industry.

49YO Childcare Centre Principal Jailed For Misappropriating $16,000 From Centre
49-year-old Hamidah Muhammad was the principal of Star Learners @ Bishan Central. As such, she was entrusted with the school fees paid by the parents to the childcare centre.
She tendered her resignation on 28 June 2018 and was supposed to aid the new principal in taking over her role but she did not do so. Sensing something amiss, the cluster principal of Star Learners Group and the management team checked through the centre’s accounts and discovered discrepancies.
It was found that Hamidah misappropriated $16,700 in total from 31 October 2017 to 11 July 2018. She has made full restitution.
She pleaded guilty to a charge for criminal breach of trust and will begin serving her 12-week jail sentence on 14 January after the District Judge granted her a week to settle her personal affairs at home.

15YO Outram Secondary Student Gets Knocked Down By Car Making Discretionary Right Turn
A 15-year-old boy was crossing the junction of Clemenceau Avenue and Havelock Road on 6 January, Monday while the green man was still flashing.
As he crosses the junction, the car nearest to him slows down to let him cross, but a red Honda car in the next lane can be seen in a video driving ahead and colliding with the boy. This resulted in the boy flipping and falling face-down onto the ground. The boy stands up after falling while clutching onto his face.
The police were notified of the incident at around 7.10am that day. The boy was rushed to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and as of now, he has been discharged from the hospital. He returned to school on Thursday.

Fewer HDB Resale Flats Sold In December Despite Prices Falling Slightly
According to real estate portal SRX Property, fewer Housing Development Board (HDB) flats were sold last month compared to November. There was a decrease of 3% despite the prices of the flats falling slightly.
Resale flat prices in December decreased by 0.3% from November, but if we were to compare it to 2018, the price in December was still 0.4% higher.
However, it was said that the decrease in the number of resale flats sold could just be a seasonal thing. It is expected that there will be higher flat sales volume this year.

4 Male Suspects Arrested For Loan-Shark Activities; Includes 14YO
Two teenagers and two men between the ages of 14 and 24 have been arrested for being involved in two separate cases of loan-shark harassment.
In the first case, blue paint was splashed on the door and gate of a HDB flat in Compassale Walk. Two teenagers were subsequently arrested on 7 January.
In the second case, the glass door of a shop unit in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 was smashed. Two men aged 22 and 24 were arrested on 8 January.
If found guilty of loan-shark harassment, first-time offenders will be fined between $5,000 to $50,000, jailed up to five years and receive up to six strokes of the cane.
