Have you caught yourself falling asleep or feeling drowsy after a hearty lunch?

While you regret treating yourself to a hearty plate of cai png, you think to yourself, “I shouldn’t have overdone it”.

You still have about 4 more hours before you can end your day and the client’s email isn’t going to write itself.

Well, you aren’t the only, even I am suffering from a food coma as I am writing this article.

Sleep would be pretty good right now but my boss keeps walking in and out of his office, so for everyone’s sake, here are 5 ways to keep food coma in check so you won’t be fired!

1) Eat breakfast

You know the saying: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, well it is true.

You need all the energy you can get to face whatever hell work might throw at you.

And it also keeps you full and you won’t gorge on 3 plates of chicken rice during lunch.

2) Drink water

I mean, if you’re already working, you don’t need me to tell you why water is important.

But if you not a huge fan of water, then you should know that water can help your food coma predicament.

It aids in digestion as it helps push your food down faster through the GI tract.

3) Eat every three to four hours

Indulge in healthy snacks two hours before lunch, so you won’t feel peckish and your blood sugar will always be consistent and you won’t feel sluggish.

4) Incorporate more whole grains

Opt for brown rice or bread as they tend to keep your full for a longer period of time as they tend to take a longer to break down.

5) Walk

This is a no-brainer but if you’re experiencing food coma, chances are that you have overeaten.

So burn the extra calories by walking it off!
