You’re feeling the heat this month, don’t you?

Walking from an air-conditioned room to a non-air con one is like walking from Singapore into the desert. I kid you not. The contrast is amazing.

So we at Goody Feed, being your BFF, decided to write this article on making your air-con cooler and save money at the same time.

Some of them might be common sense, but hey, better to leave it in ‘cuz it’s simple to do than to have people not doing it. #CommonSenseIsOverrated

1. Wash your air-con filter

So you’re in your room with the air-con switched on at full blast. But it doesn’t feel like it. Is it time for a servicing? Maybe, maybe not. Just open up the cover of your air-con and look at the filter.

Bring it to the toilet for a wash if it’s clogged up with dust. The performance of your air con will boost once you do that. Confirm plus chop.

2. Close the curtains

How your air-con operates is to cool the air within the room, and it’s making it tough for it to do that if the hot sun is shining in through the window.

Just draw the curtains and keep the sun from shining in and your room will naturally become cooler.

Don’t have a curtain in your room? Use aluminium foil to cover the windows then. It’ll reflect light and heat away from your room.

It’ll be ugly AF lah but who cares when it can rescue you from the heat while saving on electricity bills, right?

3. Stay at 25°C

This hack is a bit long-winded, it’ll save you some money on your electricity bill so you can keep the AC running longer. #FarfetchedButTrue

According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers, they have recommended that the optimal temperature to keep you cool and save you from getting a heart attack when you open the electricity bill is approximately 25°C.

For each 1°C that you refrain from lowering, you can save from 5% to 15% off your bill.

You got to admit it’s a “just nice” temperature as well…provided that 25°C is the correct 25°C (you know, in some air-con, 16°C means 25°C).

4. Go on “Dry Mode” function

This is a hidden hack most AC owners don’t even know about.

On your air con remote control, you’ll see a mode that shows up as a raindrop or snowflake. That’s the “dry” function which lowers the temperature by dehumidifying the room.

It’ll cool down the room, dehumidify the room which makes you less sticky and sweaty, and most importantly, your air con don’t have to go full blast at 18°C to feel comfortable.

And, of course, it’ll save your electricity. #ThisOneMustDo

5. Close Windows During The Day, Open Windows at Night

It’s all about nature, the yin-yang and all.

During the night, the air is cooler so keep your windows open (at least a bit) to let the cool air in. During the day, make sure all windows are closed to keep out the hot air.

Now, your air con doesn’t have to work as hard to cool down the room, which means more efficient (read: colder) air con without paying too much for it!

You’re welcome! 😉
