Recently, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that it would no longer provide the number of new linked and unlinked COVID-19 cases, due to our new strategy of living with the virus.
Some have supported this, while others, like Temasek Holdings CEO Ho Ching, think it’s too soon.
The number of locally transmitted cases will still be revealed, however, as will fatalities.
62YO Dies From COVID-19 Complications
A 62-year-old Singaporean died of COVID-19 complications on Monday (6 Sep), making him our 57th COVID-19 fatality.
The man was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital on 20 July for an unrelated condition and ended up testing positive the next day.
He has a history of cancer and bronchiectasis, a chronic lung condition, and was not vaccinated against COVID-19.
450 Locally Transmitted Cases
450 locally transmitted cases were recorded yesterday, 419 of whom were from the community.
This is the highest number of new community cases reported in a day since the pandemic began.
The remaining 31 cases were from migrant workers’ dormitories.
108 of the 450 cases are seniors over the age of 60.
Two New Large Clusters
As you may know, from today, MOH will only be providing information on large and emerging clusters in its new report format.
Yesterday, two such clusters were identified at Hu Lee Impex and Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard.
With nine new cases, Hu Lee Impex now has a total of 22 infections. As of now, there is no evidence of spread beyond workplace and household contacts of cases, MOH said, and transmission has primarily taken place in the workplace.
Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard has a total of 32 cases, with 14 new infections detected yesterday. Most of the cases are residents of 38 Kian Teck Drive dormitory. New cases had already been quarantined earlier.
Bus Interchange Clusters Grow
The clusters linked to staff working at bus interchange clusters continue to grow, as five of the eight active clusters had additions yesterday.
They are:
- Toa Payoh Bus Interchange staff – six new cases, 190 in total
- Tampines Bus Interchange staff – one new case, 45 in total
- Boon Lay Bus Interchange staff – six new cases, 152 in total
- Punggol Bus Interchange staff – two new cases, 41 in total
- Jurong East Bus Interchange staff – one new case, 43 in total
There is presently no evidence of spread to commuters, with transmission occurring in the workplace among bus captains and interchange staff.
664 in Hospital; 7 in ICU
At the moment, there are 664 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
26 severe cases require oxygen supplementation and seven were in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Of these 33 cases, 28 were seniors above the age of 60.
Currently, 81% of our population is fully vaccinated. 83% have received at least one dose.
The percentage of unvaccinated cases who became severely ill or died over the last 28 days is 5.2%, compared to 0.8% for those vaccinated.
