5YO Girl Jumps On Bed While Brushing Teeth; Falls Off & Stabs Hole In Her Throat

As of late, there have been a string of accidents that could be mistaken for an episode of final destination.

Remember the incident where a 2-year-old’s brain was impaled by a stick when he fell down while eating sausages? Truly tragic and fatal.

Well, unfortunately, I’ve got another story for you:

5YO Girl Jumps On Bed While Brushing Teeth; Falls Off & Stabs Hole In Her Throat

None of us would ever want this to happen to our child or loved one. Sometimes though, the unimaginable happens and we can’t do anything about it.

Unless you plan to wrap your baby in cotton wool and cushion them, freak accidents can happen to anyone no matter how careful we try to be.

Take this incident for example. A 5-year-old girl was jumping around on a bed while brushing her teeth. Seems like a pretty normal activity for a child doesn’t it? It was, until an accident occurred.

According to Metro, Celeste Gravenmier from Utah was brushing her teeth while jumping on the bed with her brother. Her father immediately told her to stop but just as he turned away, Celeste fell off the bed.

I’m sure you know what comes next.

The toothbrush she was holding pierced right through the back of her mouth. Celeste stood up and screamed. Her dad checked on her and saw blood.

He initially thought that she had accidentally bitten her lip, but to his horror, he realised there was a gaping hole measuring around an inch when he shined his flashlight into her mouth.

Emergency Surgery Needed

Here is her dad’s account of what went down after:

Her dad said, “She was crying at the time because her mouth quickly filled with blood. I picked her up then drove to the hospital. I just went on autopilot.”

“We had her spitting into the sink at first, then I grabbed a red towel on the way out so she could spit into that and it would mask how much she was bleeding.”

“I didn’t want her to swallow it as that can make you throw up. At the hospital, she needed a CT scan to look at the blood vessels and arteries and check she hadn’t damaged or severed one.”

“When they realised she hadn’t, they told us that the wound needed to be immediately closed and she’d need emergency surgery. I was very nervous.”

The surgery took two and a half hours wherein doctors tried their best to close the wound.

Soft Food, Liquid Diet & Speech Problems

The poor little girl was put on soft food and liquid diet for two weeks. Luckily, the toothbrush did not hit the sides of her mouth as it could’ve severed a blood vessel.

That said, she damaged the back of her mouth, an area where you use to make certain sounds. The doctors warned that in the future, speech problems may arise.

“She’s still young so has trouble pronouncing certain words anyway, but we may notice in the future that she might have issues making certain sounds.”

We really hope that she will make a full recovery ASAP.
