I recall an incident that happened a few years back.
I was out and about with my friends in a shopping mall when we stumbled upon this little boy who looked absolutely lost and alone.
There weren’t any dramatic outbursts, heck, he wasn’t even crying. He just looked lost and there seemed to be no one he knew around, so we asked him where his parents were.
He said he didn’t know and that he couldn’t find them. Worried, we asked him what his mother’s name was. He replied, “Mummy”.
The little boy had spent his entire life calling his mother “mummy” and didn’t actually know her real name.
Luckily, we managed to locate his parents, just like how this child was reunited with his parents three hours after he got lost.
5YO Singaporean Boy Found Alone At Johor Rest Stop For At Least 3 Hours
Going to Malaysia for a short getaway is pretty common for Singaporean families. Who doesn’t love a holiday that lets you maximise favourable exchange rates, amirite?
But what if you suddenly misplace something valuable… like your 5-year-old child?
Getting lost is a traumatising experience for any child, I’m sure. But getting lost in a foreign land or a totally unfamiliar place will undoubtedly cause even more trauma.
Unfortunately, a 5-year-old Singaporean boy had that unpleasant experience while in Johor with his parents.
A netizen took to Facebook to appeal for the parents of a lost 5-year-old boy from Singapore named Derrick.
The post explained how the little boy had been separated from his parents at Machap, Malaysia’s Petronas station. In the picture, he is seen drinking from a milo packet and donning a blue striped shirt and shorts.
The netizen also provided the phone number of Petronas staff in case anyone who stumbled upon the post happened to know the parents or relatives of the boy in question.
The post has since garnered a whopping 7.5k shares in less than a day.
The boy was understood to be separated from his parents for at least three hours.
A translated comment written in Chinese says, “It’s been 3 hours. His parents hasn’t come back to find him. Boy’s been crying until he has no voice. What’s strange is that no neighbours, teachers, students, relatives, or friends recognise him. Feeling a bit glum about this.”
Derrick Has Been Reunited With His Family
This dreary story has a happy ending: according to the netizen, Malaysian police have brought the boy back to his parents after his father lodged a police report.
We’re glad that the lost boy was found and kept safe while waiting for his parents.
Here’s a gentle reminder to always be aware of what our little rascals are up to, especially in crowded places where they can get lost.
