662 COVID-19 Cases Reported on 6 Dec; MOH to Stop Issuing Daily Press Release from 7 Dec

Yesterday (6 Dec), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said it will stop issuing daily press releases on infection statistics from today, “as the current wave of Delta infections subsides”.

It will, however, continue to post updates every day on our COVID-19 situation, providing information on the number of cases, hospital capacity, status of COVID-19 patients, and vaccination progress.

And fortunately for us, yesterday’s update had mostly good news, as we had a decrease in the number of fatalities, as well as our weekly infection growth rate.

4 COVID-19 Fatalities

Four more COVID-19 cases passed away from complications, down from 13 the previous day.

This brings our death toll to 763.

Aged between 81 and 97, they all had various underlying medical conditions.

662 New COVID-19 Cases

662 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (6 Dec), an increase of 110 from the previous day’s tally.

The cases comprise 638 infections in the community, 13 in migrant worker dormitories, and 11 imported infections.

Among the local cases are 106 seniors above 60.

Large Cluster at Nursing Home Grows to 48

MOH said it’s currently monitoring one large cluster with new cases, namely at THK Home For Disabled.

Located in Sembawang, the cluster grew to 48 after four more cases were linked to it recently. Of the 48 cases, two are staff members and 46 are residents.

850 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 53 in ICU

At the moment, there are 850 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

142 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 53 are in the intensive care unit, comprising six cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 47 who are critically ill and intubated.

Our ICU utilisation rate is currently at 48%, down from Sunday’s 51.2%.

Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 3.8 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.9 and 32.9 respectively.

Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.04 and 0.6 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.2 and 6.3 respectively.

Currently, 87% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 87% have received at least one dose. 28% have received their booster shots.

Two Omicron Cases in Singapore Confirmed

The two imported cases who tested preliminarily positive for the Omicron variant on 2 Dec have been confirmed to be carrying the variant, MOH said.

The National Public Health Laboratory has completed whole-genome sequencing and confirmed the infection.

Both cases, who are fully vaccinated, are presenting “mild symptoms” of cough and scratchy throat.

The good news is that they have not interacted with the community, as they were isolated upon their arrival on 1 Dec.
