Most male students in Singapore would have gone through a major transition when they reached secondary three: they would be wearing long pants instead of short pants to school. Some would rejoice while some would fret, but we all definitely have these six memories that would never leave our mind.

If youโ€™ve once gone through this transition, do you remember them?

Itโ€™s damn hot
The first thing that comes to you would be this: why has it become so hot all of a sudden? You know itโ€™s not the weather, but to act cool, you just say nothing and when you sweat, you blame the weather. Even on a rainy day.

PE lessons become a chore
When you were wearing short pants, you could keep your pants easily anywhere, and after your lesson, just wear it back without any issue. But with long pants, keeping it became a chore, and wearing it again after PE lesson meant youโ€™ll have sweaty legs for the rest of the day.

You suddenly feel like an adult
It doesnโ€™t matter whether youโ€™re an adult or not: putting on the long pants just give you the โ€œrightsโ€ to bully those in short pants. Well, or so I thought.

Sports after school become a chore
Playing soccer or basketball after school used to be easyโ€”but with long pants, it became a chore. Yes, we could still run and jump, but sometimes, youโ€™ll hear something tearing, and itโ€™s the end of the day for you.
The worst was when you tore your pants during recessโ€ฆand that meant you have to go to class with a pair of torn pairs.

You can wear ankle socks now!
Ankle socks used to be the in thing in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and itโ€™s banned in schools for some reason. In other words, wearing ankle socks with short pants would mean punishment, but no one would know that youโ€™re wearing ankle socks with long pants!
But then againโ€ฆif no one can see, then why do we still wear it? #unlogicallogic

Going to places that disallow uniformed students get easier
Before smartphones entered our lives, we got our entertainment from arcades, lan shops and billiard saloons. These places wouldnโ€™t allow people in uniform to enter, so all we have to do were to change into a T-shirt. With our long pants, it would look like we were just young adults wearing long pants.
When we were in lower secondary, changing our uniform into a T-shirt with our short pants still on would give us away immediately (although most places would still let us in).
