When it comes to food, Singaporeans do take our local food very seriously (Obama said so too) because we take pride in being a city filled with countless of gastronomical delights. So prepared to face social death if you ever do diss any of our national creations *coughs* ice cream bread *coughs* or claim that your country has the sole right to one of our national dishes like *coughs* chili crab *coughs*.
Here are 6 real reasons why we take our food seriously, and very often, way too seriously than we should have.
1. It makes us truly Singaporean
Singapore is famed for its selection of food, and it also further becomes our pride and glory whenever foreigners visit our city and claim that that is the best dish they have ever tasted in their entire lives.

We take pride of what we have and no one can put them down except us.
2. Well to do
Okay, before you start hating on what I’m going to say, we all have to agree that when it comes to food, there isn’t a fixed price tag for us as long as they taste good.
So of course we’ll have to take our food seriously because we don’t wanna waste moolah on something that tastes bad, right?
3. Choosing the right calories
Scared fat lor. So must choose the right food and take it really seriously lest we waste any calories on them.
4. Because our moms said so
Because our moms used to feed us so well when we were little that we also have to continue the tradition now that we are older.
5. Our culture
We have different cultures, but the amalgamation of food from these various ethnicities taste good. And also because we are very creative when it comes to filling up our tummies.
6. Even our hawker stalls have Michelin Stars
How to not take food seriously like that? Other countries have a lot to live up to.
