6 Restaurants You Should Check Out At Waterway Point With Your Parents This Weekend

Osaka Ohsho

Established in 1969 as a gyoza specialist, Osaka Ohsho soon garnered a steady following of Japanese diners who grew to love its casual ambiance and irresistible dumplings. The menu then evolved to include Japanese-Chinese favorites and today, there are over 300 outlets worldwide. The restaurant also houses dishes from the ever-popular Ajisen Ramen, with a quality checker from Japan to ensure that the food standards stay similar to what they have in Japan. Everything dish you see on the menu is prepared in-house and on their own!

So Pho

I was really excited about trying So Pho because I’m a huge fan of Vietnamese food, and So Pho at Waterway Point made the experience even better because the outlet sits facing the scenic spot of the waterway which allows patrons to dine with a spectacular view. At So Pho, you can also experience the Vietnamese traditional way of eating and sharing by wrapping your favourite Summer Rolls, and capture the essence of Vietnamese dining with a selection of delicious Vietnamese appetizers and delights!

We were served the famous Beef Pho, Vietnamese Rice Rolls and the Hot Plate Fish + Vermicelli which momentarily transported us to the streets of Vietnam. The food was pretty much like the ones I’ve had in Vietnam, and I couldn’t really taste the MSG in these dishes (I know of a restaurant selling Pho which has an insane amount of MSG) and I was really glad to taste the authenticity of these dishes.

My personal favourite was definitely the hot plate fish with vermicelli. The vermicelli is tossed with their house-made sweet and spicy sauce which added a lot of flavor to the otherwise dull vermicelli noodles. The sauce had the right tang which made the whole dish a lot more appetizing – one mouth of that and we were ready to conquer the rest of the food trail! The hot plate fish is prepared with dory fish fillet and it is supposedly a really popular dish in Hanoi!

Dian Xiao Er

I’ve heard quite a lot about Dian Xiao Er prior to this, and have also seen many pictures of their famed herbal duck which I’ve been dying to try! The ambience at Dian Xiao Er is intentionally planned to be rustic and raw with the careful selection of materials to complement the freshness of the herbal roast ducks which are prepared and roasted in the display kitchen daily. Customers can expect to experience a choice of dining ambience varying from dining inside a traditional Chinese inn to dining inside a rustic timber shed at the foot of a stone cliff.

Their all-time favourite Herbal Roast Duck is served with a choice of 3 different Chinese herb sauces. The duck meat here is leaner and more tender as they make it a point to remove all the fats. We really enjoyed savoring every last bit of the duck meat – their skin was still crisp at the end of all the photo-taking, and also at the end of our meal!

Other dishes serve to include the baby kailan and the Silver Cod Fish in Superior Soy Sauce which I would really recommend you to order. It’s best if you pair this with a bowl of rice as it might get a little too salty for some! But the crisp skins of the codfish, accompanied with the melt-in-your-mouth textures of meat garnered a thumbs up from us.

And if you are not over the salted egg yolk craze, the salted egg yolk lotus chips would certainly leave you sated as well!

Au Croissant

When I stumbled upon this bakery that boasted about their freshly baked croissants made in-house, I couldn’t resist the temptation to taste these tantalising treats.

The delicious aroma of freshly made croissants engulfed me as I entered the quaint restaurant, instantly piquing my appetite.

It was difficult for me to decide which croissant to choose because they were all so tempting. Finally settling on one, I marveled at the softness of it. The interior was sweet and buttery, and the delicate outer shell provided a delightful sharpness. The flavors blended well, and I could only taste a tiny bit of sweetness dancing on my tongue.
I heartily urge everyone who likes the flavor and beauty of a finely constructed croissant to indulge in what this great bakery has to offer. Get ready for an artistic, gastronomic, and tactile experience that will capture you and leave you craving more!

GroVe / Utopia

GroVe is a vegetarian concept that specialises in healthy and natural fusion cuisine selection. This quick-service concept will be an ideal dining venue where you can enjoy a quality vegetarian meal at a reasonable price.

GroVe is first to franchise Utopia’s, a bubble brand from Australia that is well-known for its range of bubble tea concocted from premium tea leaves and natural fruits. Utopia’s drinks make a perfect pairing with GroVe’s wholesome vegetarian cuisine.

The pearls used in Utopia’s bubble tea are available in chocolate or red bean flavours that are encased in tapioca flour which makes the whole bubble tea drinking experience even more fulfilling. The textures of the pearls are slightly chewier and more wholesome!

Just next to Utopia sits GroVe, a quick-service vegetarian concept that specialises in healthy and natural fusion cuisine selection. Here at GroVe, the owners make it a point to step away from the ubiquitous vegetarian dishes and have launched something unique to their own, combining a medley of local and Western dishes together to bring something more enticing to their patrons at really affordable prices! Their truffle fries are affordably priced at only S$4.50, whereas other dishes like their Laksa Pasta, Swiss Mushroom Charcoal Burger and their Sweet and Sour Monkey Head Mushroom Rice are all well below S$9.

These dishes are full of flavour and are extremely filling. You won’t even realise you haven’t had meat until you’re done with the meal!

Ji De Chi

We concluded the food trail with dessert at Ji De Chi, an unassuming stall that has opened countless of establishments around our little red dot selling homely Hong Kong-style desserts with hot and cold selections. One of their famed desserts includes the Durian with Pomelo Sago which has won the hearts of many – I mean, who can say no to Durians, right? Other must-try creations also include their creamy and snowy shaved ice desserts which are perfect to beat the heat.

Most of their shaved ice comes with toppings like mochi balls, fresh fruits and nata de coco. Their perfectly shaved ice tastes like a piece of heaven with their smooth and airy textures. Among all the shaved ice desserts I’ve tried in Singapore, I will never fail to return to the ones at Ji De Chi!
