You know that feeling you get when you’re about to fly off on holiday? Office politics? What’s that? Work? Nah.
Butterflies pool at the base of your stomach as you anticipate the beginning of your holiday. You’ve even prepared your on-the-plane selfie toolkit.
Perhaps even thought of sneaking to the business class section to get a picture ‘for the gram’.
Naughty you.
But wait, what if all your hopes and dreams are dashed at the very last minute:
6 Women Stuck At Changi Airport For 12 Hours After Entering First & Last Name Wrongly On Plane Tickets
Me: Excited and ready to go on holiday.
Life: No.
This was the case for six women. According to Lianhe Wanbao, a grand total of six women were about to board a 3.55am flight on 12 September to Guangzhou.
From there, they were to transfer to Sanya. However, their plans were postponed when they were stopped at the boarding gate at Changi Airport.
The reason? They had allegedly keyed in their first and last names wrongly on their plane tickets.
Sigh.
Staff Said They Can Still Hope On Board 8am or 1pm Flights
The airline staff told them they could still hop on board the upcoming flights at 8am or 1pm the next day.
However this was only IF the travel agency that helped them to book their tickets could change the details for them ASAP.
Thus, they scrambled to get in touch with the travel agency. Unfortunately, none of the staff from the travel agency happened to be sleeping overnight in the office. They only received a reply at 6am the following morning.
That’s two whole hours after their scheduled flight had flown off… without them.
Agency Told The Six Women They’re Responsible For The Errors They Made
They finally replied! Yasss. But wait a minute…
The agency allegedly told the six women that they were responsible for the error made and said it was not a system error.
The agency was therefore not at fault and they wouldn’t be able to make the wrong right or even offer a refund on the plane tickets they had bought.
The six of them had spend a total of $3,500 on the booking of flights and accommodation via the online travel agency.
It’s not all bad news though: the airline contacted them one month later and agreed to refund them $466 each for their flight tickets.
How kind. I don’t think everyone will be quite as lucky.
Mixing Up First And Last Name Are Common Errors, According To Airline Spokesperson
An airline spokesperson spoke to Wanbao and told them that mixing up first and last names as well as spelling your name wrongly is a common error passengers make.
So if you’re booking your year-end holiday as we speak be VERY carefully when inputting your name and details that’ll go on your plane ticket.
Especially if you’re helping a friend book their flight tickets.
