6YO Chinese Girl Paralysed & May Not Walk Again After Dance Instructor Made Her Do Split

I can only imagine the horror the parents of this 6-year-old girl must be feeling.

You give birth to a healthy and active child, raise them for six whole years and enrich them with extracurricular classes, only to have a freak accident occur.

This was exactly what happened to the parents of a 6-year-old girl in China:

A six-year-old girl in China named Tongtong became paralysed after she was pushed by her dance instructor to do a leg split during a dance class.

The freak incident happened in Henan, China, on 6 October.

According to China Press, the female instructor pushed against the girl’s leg to widen her split as she lay on the floor. This was presumably what resulted in the injury.

CCTV Footage Of The Incident

Luckily, there was CCTV footage of the whole incident:

After the instructor pushed her to widen her split, she is unable to walk properly a short while later.

Tongtong was lying down as the female instructor pushed her leg above her head. You can see that she manages to push quite a fair bit at the end.

After that, she got up and could be seen limping.

All seemed still pretty normal at that point as she still managed to walk after the split. However, the problem was evident when she subsequently sat down and tried to stand up after that.

The problem was that she couldn’t stand up.

Here she can be seen trying to get up, but to no avail.

This was when the dance instructors noticed that something was amiss and tried to help her to stand, but found that her legs couldn’t support her.

Tongtong was then taken to a hospital and the doctors revealed that she had a spinal cord injury.

Tongtong is still unable to walk.

Mother Said That Dance Academy Was Unhelpful

According to Asiaone, the mother spoke in Mandarin saying, “Doctors told me not to be too hopeful. They said she has a two in three chance of remaining paralysed unless a miracle happens. ”

The mother said that she might have gotten a minor injury from a dance move in class that same day.

Unfortunately, the condition might’ve been exacerbated when the girl was made to do a split.

The Dance Academy Responded

The dance academy spokesperson named Wang told media, “For this situation to happen in a normal lesson, I think the child may have had some underlying problems.”

The academy paid for the initial medical costs for the child. However, it might not be able to spend more money for the child’s future treatments.

He said, “We paid for all of the child’s initial medical costs out of goodwill, but it will be difficult to continue doing that in the future.”

Wait, it was out of goodwill and not because they’re responsible for it?

The mother said that the dance studio was helpful at first. However, when it was evident that Tongtong’s condition wasn’t getting any better, they stopped visiting and answering her phone calls.

Her mother said, “She used to love dancing. As a parent, I did my best to support her. Now she may not ever stand up or dance again.”
