I have a burger, I have a pineapple… ooh…
To this day, no one has settled the debate on whether pineapples belong in savoury dishes.
You have pineapples on Hawaiian pizza, pineapples in some versions of Thai fried rice, and pineapples in the Filipino Adobo dish too.
Some like it, others detest it.
But one thing you’ve probably never heard of, let alone tried, is a pineapple burger.
Sounds intriguing? Well, you could soon be holding one centimetres away from your mouth.
7-Eleven Launches Impossible Meat RTE Meals Including a Pineapple Burger
Together with Impossible Foods, 7-Eleven has launched an international range of six new ready-to-eat meals inspired by various cuisines around the world.
The convenience store has expanded its ready-to-eat selection to include more meals made with the plant-based Impossible Beef, as part of its efforts to make plant-based food accessible and affordable.
So, what’s on the menu?
7-Select Impossible Minced Meat Noodles ($4.70)
That’s right, along with a beer and a chocolate bar, you can now get a bowl of Bak Chor Mee at 7-Eleven.
The meal is made with fresh mee pok, Impossible Beef, braised shiitake mushrooms,
fried shallots and a specially-created sauce packed with umami.
7-Select Impossible Meatball & Mash ($4.70)
Who needs Ikea when you can just pop down to your nearest 7-Eleven for some meatballs?
Made with Impossible meat, these oven-roasted meatballs are paired with rich and creamy mashed potatoes and topped off with mixed mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
7-Select Impossible Spicy Wrap ($4.20)
Like Mexican food? Well, this spicy wrap should be right up your alley.
Swaddled in these tortilla wraps are beef, roasted bell peppers, and iceberg lettuce, drizzled in a tangy peri peri sauce and mayonnaise.
7-Select Impossible Shepherd’s Pie ($4.20)
It may not be something that jumps out at you off the menu, but it’s a classic for a reason.
The Shepherd’s Pie is made with Impossible Beef braised with tomato puree and topped with a thick layer of buttery mashed potatoes, ensuring that it’s not only tasty but filling.
7-Select Impossible Rendang Onigiri ($2.80)
Putting together the words Rendang and Onigiri would be like placing “pineapple” and “burger” side by side; it’s weird but oddly enticing.
If you’re a fan of Onigiri and Rendang, you’ll definitely enjoy the local twist on this Japanese dish.
The dish has Impossible Beef draped in a mildly spicy Rendang sauce tucked into a blanket of coconut rice.
7-Select Impossible Spicy Pineapple Burger ($5.90)
Have I saved the best for last? Well, I’ll let you be the judge of that one.
As you probably guessed, this Spicy Pineapple burger is a Haiwaiian-inspired dish.
It comprises an Impossible plant-based patty stacked with caramelised pineapple, pickles, and a homemade tomato chilli jam that’s sandwiched by two soft burger buns.
It’s certainly never been done before, but then again, so were Chicken and Waffles at one point.
What’s sure to attract customers isn’t just the tasty-looking meals, but their decent prices as well.
As 7-Eleven said, with these new, affordable options, customers can now enjoy more sustainable and affordable meal options on the go, any day, any time.
