You just spent $200 at Sketchers in Jurong Point. Boy, did that feel good!
It’s not going to feel AS GOOD when you lie down in your bed at night and think of your outstanding credit balance.
Sometimes you don’t know the mistakes you’re doing with your money. It’s time to sort out your finances before your girlfriend nags your ears to death!
Here’s 7 mistakes you’re probably doing as a man.
1. You Don’t Track Your Expenses
There’s no way your OCBC savings account is going to bloom if you don’t keep a financial diary. Download an app like Wally, Expensify or Good Budget to help you out if the pen-and-paper method is too ancient for you.
2. You Always Pick Up The Tab
You’re out with your buddies and you ALWAYS insist on paying for the movie tickets or bowling alley fees. Times that by at least 4-6 visits in a month and you’ll finally see the light on where your money’s going! Try going Dutch for a change.
3. Spending Heavily On Good Food
A buffet is a good thing to go for, but not every other month. It’ll cost you at least $150 dollars for a weekend buffet with cocktails, juices and a fantastic spread.
If you go an average of 8 times in a year, it’s costing you $1200! Now that’s not a joke.
You’re better off experimenting cooking at home with your bae.
4. Borrowing Money for a Wedding
There’s no point in taking up a personal loan to finance an extravagant wedding. Ever. So if you’ve proposed to your girl, talk to her on how to make a simple yet stylish wedding that won’t break both your bank accounts.
Because the wedding’s not what’s really important, but the marriage is.
5. A Weak Credit History
You’ve got a credit card and a personal loan to your name, but you’re poor when it comes to paying on time. This affects your credit rating, especially when the time comes to invest in an HDB flat or a private apartment.
Pay your bills a week before its due date and you’ll have an excellent credit score to look at in a year!
6. Falling Back on Your Parents
Yes, ma and dad are still there to help you out. But achieving full financial independence give unleash a sense of confidence you’ve never seen before. You’ll beam in the eyes of your friends and girlfriend too.
7. No Proper Basic Financial Management
You don’t have a life insurance plan, and neither have you got a retirement savings going on. This is frankly what puts a man apart from a boy.
Why?
Because you’re prepared for the worst in every way.
