7 signs that your life is not in a mess: you are just a highly sensitive person

Do you constantly feel like your life is falling apart and tearing at the seams? Yes, we just borrowed a line from The Fray’s “Heaven Forbid”. Heaven forbids that you should be so depressed all the time. If anything, you are just highly sensitive to your surroundings and tend to over-react slightly too often. Cheer up, because even though life is never a bed of roses, you can still find some joy and satisfaction in it.

You feel like you are being demanded to make many changes.
Different people have different expectations of what constitutes perfection. If you are trying to cater to too many people at the same time, you are definitely being too sensitive to their demands. Just make the necessary adjustments and be flexible, not inconsistent.

You have a new revelation everyday.
After reading a book, a news article or even watching a movie, you feel like there is something wrong with your life because you have not realised the moral of the story you were following. I can assure you that this does not prove that you are in a mess, but rather, that you have areas to improve on. Those are two different situations.

You can’t get over your superior’s scolding.
I only have three words for you: get over it. If you really sucked at your job, you would have been fired, and not just simply reprimanded. The scolding is to motivate you to perform better and avoid the same mistakes.

You are alone most of the time.
Being alone is definitely different from being lonely. Highly sensitive people usually prefer having lots of alone time to tackle their wide spectrum of thoughts and feelings. Constantly being alone and enjoying your own company is definitely not a sign that you are doing something wrong in life.

You cry often.
Again, this doesn’t mean that you are weak and your entire life is a mess. You cry because you need an outlet to release all that pent-up emotions from your high sensitivity to things around you, not because you feel helpless.

You find it hard to say “no”.
It’s not the end of your life if you tend to be soft-hearted it comes to helping people. It does not mean that you are emotionally powerless. It just means that you are extremely sensitive to people’s feelings and can understand their difficulties.

You think that people talk behind your back.
Even if it’s the truth, who doesn’t talk behind people’s backs? As long as you are sure that you are doing the right thing and not being treated unfairly because of the gossip, then there is nothing to worry about. Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never kill you.
