71-Year-Old Man Jailed for Over 20 Months for Molesting Boy and Assaulting Hospital Staff

A 71-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 months and one week in jail for molesting a nine-year-old boy near an HDB block as well as for attacking nurses and security personnel at Changi General Hospital.

The accused, Amir Ali Bin Mohamad Ali, faced five charges including molestation and voluntarily causing hurt.

He pleaded guilty to three charges, with the remaining charges taken into consideration during sentencing at the State Courts on Monday, 3 Mar 2025.

Here’s what happened.

Boy Molested at HDB Void Deck

Court documents revealed that on 8 Oct 2024, the victim was cycling past Block 463B Sengkang West Road when the accused suddenly called out to him. After some casual conversation, the accused forcibly kissed the boy.

The victim noticed the accused attempting to insert his tongue into his mouth. He turned his head away to avoid this and freed himself from the accused.

The boy later cycled to his student care center where he told his teacher about the incident. The teacher contacted the victim’s guardian and filed a police report.

Previous Hospital Assaults

On 2 Jan 2024, the accused had visited Changi General Hospital due to dizziness.

After arriving at the hospital, he was placed in a wheelchair and taken to an observation room on the second floor of the emergency department.

At around 1:00 PM, the accused stood up from the wheelchair and got into an argument with medical staff.

He became agitated and started verbally abusing a nurse. He then pushed a portable medical device towards her, hitting her abdomen.

In May of the same year, while waiting for admission at Changi General Hospital, the accused dreamed about his late mother.

After waking up, he was under emotional distress and requested to go outside to smoke. The duty nurse suggested he rest in bed, but he refused.

At approximately 5:30 AM, Certis Cisco security officers arrived to calm the accused and persuade him to stay in bed. The accused ignored their advice and attempted to stand on the bed.

For his safety, the security personnel tried to hold him and pull him back to bed. The accused suddenly became aggravated and punched one of the security officers in the left side of the face.

During his mitigation plea in court, the accused expressed shame and apologized for his actions.

He mentioned having nine screws implanted in his neck from a previous surgery, needing knee surgery, and having to pay rental for his HDB flat. Hence, asking the judge for leniency.
