73YO PMA Rider Taken To Hospital After Getting Hit By Taxi At Choa Chu Kang Junction

In the midst of all the PMD-related accidents and the footpath ban, it’s easy to place all mobility-device riders under the same “Annoying Motorists” group.

But PMA riders are a different group altogether. They are usually used by the elderly and handicapped who have trouble walking.

So, these are riders who need their mobility device and who don’t speed or endanger others. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for those around them.

Hit while crossing the road

Facebook user Norr Amira, who claimed she is the victim’s granddaughter, said her grandfather was crossing the road on his PMA when the green man signal was lit but was hit by an oncoming taxi.

His glasses and hat were thrown off due to the impact of the accident, she added.

Taken to hospital

In some photos uploaded to STOMP, the man can be seen lying on the road surrounded by passersby with his leg on a cushion.

His PMA appears to be stuck under the offending cab, which is a ComfortDelGro taxi.

Several people, including some GrabFood delivery riders, were at the scene to offer assistance as paramedics tended to the man.

It is unclear how severe the man’s injuries were, but he was conscious when he was conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, a police spokesman said.

ComfortDelGro Response

Comfort DelGro has apologised for the accident, saying the elderly victim’s welfare is now their main concern.

“We are sorry to learn about this accident. Our priority is the welfare of the injured on the personal mobility aid and we are in touch with the Traffic Police to extend our assistance to him”, said Ms Tammy Tan, Group Chief Corporate Comminications Officer of ComfortDelGro in a statement.

Police investigations are ongoing. We hope that the 73-year-old man survives his injuries and makes a speedy recovery.
