A 77-year-old woman was found dead in her Bedok HDB flat on Sunday after blood began dripping through her neighbour’s ceiling below.
The grim discovery happened at Block 163 Bedok South Road following a two-day search by the woman’s sister.
Police have ruled out foul play. The woman, known to neighbors as “Nancy,” had lived alone in the unit for over 25 years.

Blood From Above Triggers Discovery
The tragedy came to light when blood started seeping through a ceiling on Sunday afternoon. Ms Zeng (name transliterated from Mandarin), 70, was in her ground-floor master bedroom when her son spotted red liquid dripping from above at 1:05 PM on 25 May 2025.
“I saw blood dripping down. I could smell something really bad too,” Ms Zeng said. The odor was fishy and rotten.
The family rushed upstairs to investigate. They found a woman outside the unit above, desperately knocking on the door. Food delivery boxes hung outside the flat, uncollected for two days.
The woman was Nancy’s sister. She had been searching for her sibling since Sunday morning.
Two-Day Search Ends in Tragedy
Neighbor Salamah (name transliterated from Mandarin), 61, witnessed the sister’s growing panic. The search began at 10 AM that morning.
“She kept knocking but nobody answered,” Salamah said. “By 11 AM, she asked me if I knew where Nancy had gone.”
Other neighbours had noticed warning signs earlier. A male resident from the same floor said his wife spotted uncollected food delivery on Friday, 23 May 2025. The boxes were still there on Saturday.
“Yesterday morning, the food was still there,” he told reporters.

The sister went home to find spare keys but returned empty-handed. She called a locksmith next, but he refused to open the door after smelling the strong odor coming from inside.
The blood dripping from the ceiling finally prompted the sister to call police.
Investigation Rules Out Foul Play
Multiple police cars arrived at the scene by 2:05 PM, including a Crime Scene Investigation vehicle. Officers cordoned off the corridor outside the unit by 4 PM. The smell of decay filled the area.
Police confirmed they found a 77-year-old woman lying inside the unit. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A hearse arrived at 6 PM to remove the body.
Initial investigations ruled out foul play. The case remains under investigation.

Mr Ou (name transliterated from Mandarin), 72, who lives below the deceased, described Nancy as a quiet resident who kept to herself. His family now faces the aftermath of the discovery.
“The smell makes our flat unbearable,” Mr Ou said. “We’ll sleep in the living room and contact authorities about cleaning solutions.”
