What would you do if you had a ton of money?

Would you hoard the money for yourself, or would you donate the money to others?

If you choose the latter, we salute you for your selflessness and care for others.

One man, who retired at 47 years old, has pledged to donate a good amount of his wealth to charity when he passes away.

Here is more about the 79-year-old man’s story and his life of good deeds.

79-Year-Old Man Pledges His Fortunes to Charity When He Passes Away

It is said that you are born with nothing and die with nothing. Worldly possessions like money and property cannot be brought with you to the afterworld.

This led a wealthy and kind-hearted man to pledge $20 million of his assets to charity upon his death.

He made this pledge when he was in his 50s and intends to honour it when he passes on. Of course, this is after providing for his descendants and wife.

The man is none other than Mr Loh Kiong Poot, who is currently 79 years old.

Mr Loh was a very successful businessman back in the day. He was so good at doing business that he earned enough to retire at the tender young age of 47 years old.

Do we hear all those who are still 60-odd years old and slogging their guts out crying with envy?

We sure are.

With the enormous wealth that Mr Loh has pledged to donate, we’re sure that a lot of people who need the help will sing his praises for time to come.

He Is Wealthy but Low-Key

For those who are curious, Mr Loh started his own business when he was around 30 years old and went on to do well from there.

However, not everything was smooth sailing for Mr Loh from the start.

He was not wealthy or happy when he was young, but he worked hard and slowly amassed his wealth.

Kudos to a self-made king.

Despite his wealth, Mr Loh is not arrogant or irritating as some might expect him to be.

In fact, he is a man with a kind heart. Mr Loh shared with 8days that he donates about half of the money he earns each year.

In 2018 and for five consecutive years after that, he donated to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF) and six other charitable organisations.

He donates not only locally, but also overseas to Cambodia and Thailand.

The money he donated has since been used to build temples and schools as well as buy food for those in need.

If you need even more reason to be in awe of Mr Loh, know that he has donated so much money that he cannot even remember how many times he has donated.

What a flex.
