It’s the Hari Raya holidays tomorrow – which means you can sleep in late AND not go into work! But that also means that it’s the last day of the Geylang Serai pasar malam. Boo.
So before it ends, what better way is there than to spend today stuffing yourself with delicious bazaar food? You can always spend tomorrow at the gym to work off those calories (but let’s be real, you’ll be curled up in be all day).
1. Watermelon Volcano
Dare I say, this might be the most popular dish at the pasar malam by far. The Watermelon Volcano has been featured on a fair share of Instagram photos, and with good reason – who doesn’t want to sip on refreshing watermelon juice in 32°C heat?
The only downside is, it’s so popular that you’ll have to queue if you want one. But it’s worth it, trust me.
Price: $6.90 (medium), $12.90 (large)
2. Rainbow Bagel
Just a few vendors away from the Watermelon Volcano stall is where you can get your daily sugar fix. The rainbow bagel is a toasted swirl filled with strawberry cream cheese, and yes, it’s as sweet as it looks.
Price: $8/piece
3. Poffertjes
If the rainbow bagels were not sweet enough for you (though we seriously doubt that), you’d definitely love poffertjes. These fluffy mini pancakes are served with butter and powdered sugar, and you can choose from a variety of add-ons, including maple or chocolate syrup.
Price: $2.50/set of five
4. Crispy Fried Squid
When you’re at a bazaar, eating healthy is the last thing on your mind – and this dish brings it to a whole new level of sinful. Battered, deep fried and then served piping hot, this giant piece of fried seafood is well worth your calories.
Price: $7
5. Croatian Nutella balls
Instead of being laced with booze like they do it in Croatia, these banana-flavoured pastries are deep-fried and drizzled with Nutella. But be sure to go early – they usually sell out by 10pm!
Price: $4.50
6. Ramly Burger
Move over MacDonald’s – this is the burger to end all burgers. Ramly Burgers are a staple in every pasar malam, and that’s because they taste SO DAMN GOOD. Pairing a juicy meat patty with the fluffiest eggs you can find – what could go wrong?
Price: $3.50
7. Churros
There are foods that have yet to fail us, and churros are one of them. But these aren’t any ordinary churros – they’re catered to us locals. My personal favourite is the pandan churros dipped in the gula melaka topping. Super yumz.
Price: $4.20-$4.50
8. Macaron Ice Cream
I mean, it’s a macaron PLUS ice-cream. You know it can never go wrong.
Price: $4
Location: Along the stretch of Changi Road between Joo Chiat Road and Paya Lebar Road
Opening hours: 5pm till late
